One of my HAL chicks is crowing already. Heard him two days ago and again today at dusk. It's not unheard of in quail, but it's the first early crower I've hatched.

Well, a third were clear (expected), a third are in the brooder, and a third have yet to hatch. Not too optimistic for the last ones. Not sure if it's the time of year, or these quail were too young. The eggs weren't quite full sized. I do have a few Italians/pearls in the brooder though, so...

Yep, they start day 16 pretty much on the hour I set them.

Hmm, why do coturnix say 18 days? They should be 16. Didn't pay enough attention so I will probably have a few pop out tonight.

I am setting quail eggs after I collect the last few tonight.

Maybe I will join.. quail will be 9 weeks, should be laying but I prefer to wait a bit longer
