For the cabbage I took a big eye-hook (or you could use a regular hardware hook) with a screw end and screwed it into the cabbage core and then attached string to the eye end and hung it up. Very easy. And! it would work for a lot of veggies: corn, zucchini, cukes and fruit: apples etc.
