Quote: I wonder, I have a turkey setting on rotten eggs. I think she is seriously on day 37 and hasnt given up. I wonder if I put some turkey chicks under her if she will raise them....any thoughts? Headed to the turkey page. I'd sure try it, and get those rotten eggs outta there before...

Broody hen won't come off nest!

She won't start laying again until she's done raising chicks. The time frame varies from one hen to another. Some don't want to ever stop mothering, others figure once the chicks have feathers, they're done. You'll know she's done when she starts roosting again. Then she'll be about ready to...

Broody hen won't come off nest!

Sounds like she's got the hang of it. You can relax now, just check under her once daily, (or peek while she's on her break, even better) just to make sure there's no broken eggs, and to clean up if there is. Other than that, sounds like she's got it covered. Oh, I stop looking under them on...

No, that's a good thing! If there's no ginormous poops in the nest, it means she is getting off the nest for a break everyday, you just didn't catch her at it. Just have food and water somewhere near the nest, but far enough away she has to leave the nest to get it. Sounds like she's doing fine!

Broody hen won't come off nest!

Just take her off the nest, stick her outside with food and water, and do what you need to do. The eggs will be fine for awhile without mom. Put them where she can't reach them until...

Broody hen won't come off nest!

If she's pooping in the nest, you do need to try to get her to get out once a day. Maybe leave the door to the crate open for a few days. You'll have to check under her for new eggs from other hens if you do. (Be sure to mark all of her eggs, so you know which they are) but she may be more...
