    Oh no, that looks like a cockerel to me :( Barred rock females are darker (like the one in the bottom corner of your pic), and the males have much more white. Check out this post/thread: Barred Rock Gender You can also post over in that forum and see what more experienced folks than myself...

    Thanks! I'll be asking around :jumpy I figured I'd better learn how to incubate before buying shipped eggs from all the gorgeous breeds I want... We can't have Roosters but we can have 25 hens, and so far only have 5 pullets (and our coop to house 25 is almost livable!)

    Just a heads up - last year I wanted to see a naturopath, and found out that something with WI law meant they weren't recognized as medical doctors so they weren't covered by insurance.
