I will definitely be checking out the club on facebook!
On another note, my scissor beak chick passed last night. I had noticed this past week that she had seemed to stop growing, so I was bringing her in at night to get some solo eating time, with a mash.I got home from work yesterday and she...
Thanks! I hope so too.
If not, no real loss, as they're just for my backyard :)
I've been trying to get experience with different breeds, because I'd like to pick 2 or 3 and really focus on them. Eventually. Salmon Favs seem to be one of those where there are not a lot of breeders, I had a hard...
I really do want to try that. been on my "to-do" list for a bit.
I have all the babies in a separate pen so I may try that with their chick feed, then switch everyone over once they start layer. I'd never heard the mold thing though, thanks! That would have freaked me out for sure lol.
I moved...
Oh Goodness!
So sweet! My scissor beak girl hasn't gotten severe enough to need help yet. I'm actually kind of proud of her. I think she may be my only pullet too. It's SO hard to tell with hatchery stock. No comb development, but the other has black coming on the chest. It really is a waiting...
I've actually found this page to be a good resource for finding breeders.
You could also search the buy, sell, trade forum on here and fnd a breeder I'm sure.
I found some gorgeous birds in OH from the buy, sell, trade. Probably close enough for a quick transit, if you don't mind shipping.
I...
I ordered 2 from Ideal. They are only 3 weeks, but neither one has accurate coloring, at least nothing I would think to use in a breeding program. Also, one of them has scissor beak.
I have had some lovely hatchery girls, but these aren't a breed I would get from a hatchery again.
^Is she in...
One of my Fav chicks from Ideal has scissor beak as well
I think they're just one of those breeds (for me) that really needs to come from a breeder.
My Orloffs, EEs, and Australorps are all doing really well though.
Ok...im usually the one answering these questions, but Faverolles are new to me! Both of my chicks have a lot of dark feathers. .even coming in on the neck and chest. They ARE from a hatchery, so I dont expect them to be perfect but...I have a feeling I have 2 little boys
They're 2 weeks :)
She's lovely!
So..I had a terrible time finding a breeder. And of course now that I've found a couple (2), it's too hot to ship that far, even IF someone we're willing. Not able to hatch yet so eggs are out.
Anyways....I broke down and ordered some from Ideal, because they'd ship overnight...
I've seen someone use pictures from a hatchery like Meyer's or My Pet Chicken, and just write a little one line disclaimer, saying that those weren't the actual chicks or parents, but a representation of what the breed generally looks like.
Not sure of the legalities.
