Have you considered fermented feed? I feed it and all of my birds are heavier than others I see on the site. I always heard it was something you should feed "meaties", but I'm a vegetarian and feed it to all my chicks. You can search it on BYC, there's a lot of information out there on it...

I have a "mean" pen. It's always interesting to find out who's the meanest meanie....Then I take the meanest and put her in a pen with a "non fave" rooster that's a bit mean. If he gets too mean, he goes into isolation for a while, and she gets to move back to her original pen...plus, taking...

I think she's beautiful!! with my baby, I worried that the other chicks would pick at it, but they never did. Maybe chickens don't spend a lot of time staring into each others eyes.

Sorry to reply late....it's been a long weekend. I have about 50 chickens and never cull. I have mostly Easter Eggers, Marans, and SFs. (I'm a vegetarian so freezer camp is out too ) This little guy came out of the SF pen.....I have all the breeds separated unless there's a problem of some...

He/she has never had a beard, and never had leg feathers. The hatch date was the end of May. Mom and Dad (I know for sure this is Dad, but Mom could be any of the hens) and they were directly from Ideal. He/she is a first generation home hatched. Here is Dad, who molted his tail feathers...

You could certainly be right, but let me show you some more pictures........ Here she/he is with a rooster that was hatched within a couple of days of her/him: His/Her posture is wrong for a roo. Also, he/she is very submissive. A banty easter egger in with these two chases Him/her all...

I think it may take a while before the feeling leaves the eye....and surely it gets dirt etc in it from the days activities. I'm sure mine probably rubbed hers some too, just not a lot more than the others, so I didn't find it worrysome. I'm looking forward the see the weekly pics

I want to show you the picture of my little "hideaway" Fave. (She was the suprise at the bottom of the nest this spring.) She is quite a bit darker than any of my others and not in the Fave pen. I, like you, will not raise a fuss with Ideal, but she's not a typical color at that age. Maybe...

Hi again. Today I took some pictures so you will know for sure that there is life after a bad eye. She has it open some time, and closed other times. Here she is forward facing. You can tell there's a problem with that side of her face, but it never seems to bother her. She can be both...

Such darling babies. She (They) all look very much like mine did at that age. I've hatched one Fav by accident this summer. I thought I was collecting all eggs each day, but I guess not. I have their nest in a plastic crate, and after hatching found her way to the bottom of it. I heard her...

If you want her to be able to eat, if the scissor beak does get worse, try fermented food. I make a 5 gal bucket of it every day, but you could make much less just for her. You might find they all love it, mine do. Just take the layer food and add about the same amount of water. (It should...

Molting has been a bit problematic this year. Beards and tails taking the hardest hits. Poor babies!

I feed fermented food, so it's very easy for him to "shovel" it in so far. I do believe it's becoming worse however. He's a sweetie, so I'll be giving him every chance possible.

My sweet lady wasn't sick a day, and she grew up to be a healthy hen. She's expecially friendly to me, and I think it was because I handled her more than the others. (I gave her eye drops not really knowing what was wrong) I'll bet your little on will do well too.....They're probably sisters :D

I have a Faverolles from Ideal. I have a sweet little girl with a now, white/blind eye. I wondered the same about her, thinking that perhaps another chick had pecked her. After your post I wonder if it's a genetic problem at Ideal. I also got 2 roosters, one of which is seperated from the...

I'm new to the group because I had ordered about 25 chicks from Ideal, and 9 of them are Salmon Faverolles, and the rest EEers. I got them this morning, and they're all doing quite well. I'm trying to decide which are the boys and which are the girls. None of them have a dark area on their...
