We only hatched two of the UofA Salmon Faverolles. However, it appears to be a pullet and a cockerel. Both have 5 good toes on each foot. They are so cute, but stay hidden among the Sussex and Orpingtons in our brooder tote.
But Dr. Bramwell selects for the best traits. A dual purpose breed should also be a good layer. So hoping these start a bit sooner than a year.
You were in Florida, right?
Will have to post photos later.... but.... we have 5 UofA Salmon Faverolles hatched out and their feet all have 5 nice toes! If they are not all roosters we should have eggs available this fall.
Have been a bit busy lately. We are about 6 hours from the UofA. Long drive for eggs. We have 4 Salmon Faverolles developed in the incubator. hoping they hatch and survive to adulthood. If so, we will offer our own eggs. If we can find a 3' or 4' soda pop box, we will build our own cabinet...
UofA? In Maine?
You must have swiped some eggs from Elias!
we have an incubator full of University of Arkansas eggs. A few are Faverolles. Candling tonight to remove any duds.
Plus the UofA has lots of slave labor ... ..... I mean student labor..... to help care for the flocks.
ETA: The commercial poultry industry gives $$$$$$$$$ grants to their research projects.
I am deeply offended! No one said anything about contaminating my Orpingtons with Faverolles when I sent those Black/Blue/Splash Orpington chicks home with you! Are you sure your wife will allow you to "borrow" her Orpingtons for a Faverolles project?
Hmmm.... maybe this fall I will try for a...
I wish to no longer follow this thread or speak of Favorells again!
I only subscribed so a 4H friend would have some help getting stock and learning more about the Salmon Faverells. I am an Orpington fellow. Just not into fethered shanks and stuff. We attended the Poultry Breeding and...
As I stated.... I really hate Salmon Faverolles! Especially this one below! That White Chantecler behind it is so much better looking!
I filed a complaint with the fair about that huge banner blocking the view of the prettier birds at the fair!
On a different topic, we are now looking for a...
ROAD TRIP TIME!
Several on this thread are in New England. Its just a short Saturday afternoon drive. Go look at the Autumn leaves and enjoy a few covered bridges. then bring home some Salmon Faverolles.
The UA flock had been recently culled in most breeds. The hens were culled and pullets replaced them. We wanted some of the Salmon Faverolles too for a local youth. Hoping for some next time. Not that we are upset with the 457 eggs Elias brought us!
He did bring us a cockerel from someone who...
Personally, I dislike feathered legs and ear muffs/beards. But this is a very pretty bird! I really need to drive the 2 miles to Jeremy's and take some photos. HeritageHabitFarms picked up 2 nice UA line cockerels on Saturday. He sent one with me. Jeremy is very thrilled! For now all of his...
