Congrats on the hatching eggs! Good luck with your hatch! Faverolles can be of varying quality. They're always fun to have, but some folks might want a potential show bird and they would want it to align to the Standard Of Perfection. In general, it helps to get them from a breeder who...

Two is still fairly young. She may have gone though a molt, and is now starting to come back. The food coloring trick might work. A few drops of food coloring dropped on the old hens vent, and the egg they lay will be marked. It works when I'm unsure who is laying, or if I want to tell them...

It's possible. My SF hens tend to lay up through around six or seven years. How old is your girl?

I have a few pure Faverolles, which are great birds- and one "accidental" Fav mix, who just became one of the sweetest broodie mamas. Here she is with her chick. It's only a few days old and she brought it outside! and here is the very protective father, making sure the other hens...

Most favs don't scratch much, if at all, but... it can be a learned behavior from watching other chickens take the lead. Both my silkies and my favs do scratch, which is not typical for the breeds. I'm pretty sure it's been a learned behavior from being raised with leghorn chicks.

If you don't mind about show quality, Meyer Hatchery will ship just 3 chicks during the warmer months (April, May) and they have S.F.

She's very pretty. If you want to stop the broody behavior, and get her back to laying, put her in a wire-bottomed cage- with food and water, (a dog crate from TSC or a large parrot cage, etc ) Leave her in the cage for a few days either in the garage, basement, sunroom, or if your coop is big...

Beautiful! The way that I use to tell sex on Faverolles is looking at the chest/neck feathers coming in. The white/cream or only slightly speckled chests are females. A hatchery female can have a slightly speckled chest, but usually only the cocks will have a truly black chest. The sleeping...

What part of the country are you located? I have the best luck picking eggs up locally, rather than shipping.

These haven't been washed, so please excuse any poopies, all SF except the pale blue one. An EE egg just to compare color.

I'm not an expert, but the cock closest to the front and the one 2nd most to the right look like my favorites so far from what I see of them. Of course avoid squirrel tail, couldn't see which one has it. They will change some as they mature, but banding now is a good idea if you want to pick...

I forgot to add a few bits to my earlier thoughts on keeping multiple roosters. With the boys I was keeping, they had a pecking order- there's no question about that. But ultimately they got along in a similar way as the hens do- every so often someone would get a bloody comb for challenging the...

I suspect some individuals may vary, but when I had six roosters all together, they had a clear pecking order, but got along reasonably well. These guys were not adjoining to the hens, but could see and hear the hens. They made noises all day long, and very early in the am. Other than that they...

The best genetics scenario website IMO is the Kippenjungle chicken genetics calculator. I could spend hours there! The 5 toe gene is considered dominant. However, partial expression in the phenotype is known to happen occasionally in crosses. Some chicks may get four toes on one foot, yet...

It is a bit darker brown in color than you would typically see. Something still says pullet to me on that chick- it doesn't have any of the black you would see in a cockerel. Maybe it's a very dark female?
