My and a few others Faverolles from Meyer are rather poorly... I have one pretty hen but both are not very healthy. Meyer contacted me after reading my complaint here and said they were working on improving their lines, and that was about two years ago now so I don't know what sort of genetics...

My hatchery (which I do not overly recommend if you have a choice) faverolles are docile to the point of being downright meek, and the other hens push them around quite a lot. There can always be a bad apple here and there, but overall as a breed they do seem to be quite docile.

As far as my research has led me, neither the vaccine available to the public nor the ones used at hatcheries can make a chicken shed live chicken Marek's disease. The only live vaccine they are ever given for Marek's is a turkey version of the virus, which cannot become symptomatic in chickens...

Sorry, I do not mean to derail, but do you know which vaccines cause chickens to shed actively contagious virus?

To everyone: Now that I've had them over two years, I can say that the hatchery Faverolles I have are overall the least vigorous and have the poorest constitutions of all of the hatchery breeds I have. They are sweet-- by far the sweetest girls I have-- but they have been on and off again sickly...

Caitenji, one of my hatchery pullets looked like your darkest bird when she was feathering out too-- mine is 100% hen. You might just have some poorly colored pullets (I'll cross my fingers for ya!). Here is a photo of her when she was about the same age as yours. It's hard to tell in this...

For the record, my statement was in relation only to the chicks from Meyer (MPC), which of course are hatchery quality, as they are from a hatchery. In my experience, their chicks are fragile. I fully expect well bred birds to have chicks with a much greater vigor!

My Faverolles came from the same hatchery (MPC gets their chicks from Meyer) and noticed that they seemed very delicate as chicks. You can let nature take it's course or if you want you can give some more intense TLC. My Derperella wasn't going to make it either but I spent a few sleepless...
