YAAAAAAAAAY, after 4 solid months of not laying a single freakin egg, the starts have mysteriously re-aligned and my faverolles are right back in the saddle. It's the middle of winter, and they're both laying an egg a day, roughly. Weird and silly birds.

That's the thing, I've wormed them and dusted them in case it's parasites. No changes to their environment for at least 4 to 6 months, no signs of moulting, they have the same diet as the other hens that are merrily laying away, they show no signs of broodiness, and they are now 11 months old...

Thanks for replying elizmartin. I don't have supplimental light, and I considered that might be the problem. The only thing is that Faverolles aren't supposed to shut down in winter (or at least my research led me to believe this is the case when I was considering them), and they stopped...

Hi all, been away for a long while due to RL. I hope you've all been doing well! The reason for my reappearance was that I wanted to ask the experts about the egg-laying habits of purebred LF Faverolles (blue salmons, not that I think it really affects anything :P). My two lovely girls were...

Well, as of yesterday, I have one Faverolle Hen...... according to chicken math anyway. Butterscotch laid her first egg: Here is a picture of her. She's in the back, behind the non-chicken with the messy beard:

Oh how I wish I could! I think my DH will make me sleep on the couch for a month though, since we already have our bathroom taken over by our brooder for the current 5 troublemakers in there. I'll have to remember this for next year!

I would think that a cockerel with good body, shape, size, and coloring would be valuable for breeding even with some problems with the leg feathering. I've heard that the bodyshape and size are the hardest things to breed for, and coloring and feathering can be tidied up from there.

Thanks! Nice to know I wasn't too far off. I don't think there would be a whole lot of competition here in ID, so I'll probably get away with fluffy second toes. We'll see how they grow :)

Thanks Cloverleaf! I'd say from your pics that all of my chicks have beautiful seperation, except one that has one 'eh' foot like your roo. Even the one that was born with curled feet has straight and pretty toes after I put little cardboard booties on him. We call him Paddlefoot. I hate to...

Hi all :) Hope everyone is doing well. Congrats Hamilton, I'm very jealous, and can't wait until circumstances let me go to a poultry show myself. My five chicks are all growing like weeds, and I think the final count may be 3 girls and 2 boys (I'm so lucky!). Still waiting till they're 2...

Thanks for everyone's input on helping my little balls of fluff! There was much complaining, but everyone now has a very stylishly slicked back beard that stays out of their little eyes. Phew! It took a lot of mealworms for them to accept my apology!

Thanks for replying! I have actually done that, but as soon as the fuzz dries, it's right back to touching their poor little eyes again. Hm..... do you think that slicking them down with vaseline might help? It'd make them look like they're trying out for a role in Grease, but it might...
