Most of mine have some black in their beards, some have darker feathers lower than their back, and they're all a little small.
I still love em' though :)

Feeders - I got the idea from a thread on this board.. Something about a $5 DIY feeder, but I can't seem to find the thread now.
Anyway, it's a 3" 90' PVC elbow with the flange cut off and glued to the other end so it sandwiches the bucket and holds it relatively stiff. On...
I did try the WA thread before we were ready to start our flock, but the timing of getting the birds from the folks I was in contact with didn't work out. Instead I got them at Baxter Barn which I believe gets them from Murray (?)
I tried searching this thread as it seems like this might be a common question - Sorry if I missed it...
How long does it typically take for a Salmon Faverolles to reach "full size" ? Mine are about 9 months old now and still "large pullet size", but nowhere near the size of large birds I...
This is Nina, one of two with a lot of black bleeding into her coloring. I got them from Baxter here in WA, but I know they get theirs from a hatchery someplace. Unsure which one.
Despite the non-standard coloring, I do think the black ends on the feathers are neat looking. Being for...
My 3 month old girls are mostly "clucking" instead of "peeping" at this point... Is it me, or do they sound more like ducks than chickens?
I don't have much to compare to, but the Sussex and Wyandotte that we have (roughly same age) sound more like what I expect a common chicken sound to...
My 4 Favs from a hatchery (pictured a couple pages back) had lots of black in them. They're 8 weeks now and certainly girls (despite their "poor" coloring)
I have 4 hatchery birds and they all have black in them. Quite sure they're girls still though, despite the black.
One of them from a few weeks ago:
They're actually getting lighter the older they get, but I doubt they'll ever get to "pure breed show bird" quality (But don't tell them I...
I had to clear up a couple cases of Pasty Butt when they were brand new. They too had pretty naked bums for a while. I wouldn't worry about it much.
We just hit 7 weeks and we've got most of our feathers now
First time out in warm sun! (4 Faverolles, 1 Wyandotte, 1 Sussex)
They are 5 weeks old today. If they're "unique" girls, I'm OK with that (not thrilled, but OK) as they're only going to be used as layers and family pets. However, we only purchased enough this year that we might add a couple more per year to keep our median age within egg laying range. If...
Here are my four girls(?). We bought them locally at a place called Baxter Barn which is a small local farm business. Not a feed store, but I'm not sure where there chicks come from.
I have 6 chicks from this place. I'm pretty sure 1 is a roo (Wyandotte). I'll be crabby if I got 5 of...
All except 1 of my Salmons (5ish weeks) have a lot of black in their feathers. The 2 extremes of the 4 are pictured above (least black and most black left to right.) Not something I see in pictures of mature gals. Will they grow out of this, or do I just have darker-than-usual chickens...
Just through I'd stop in and say hello from a new Faverolles guy. This is our first attempt at raising chickens and after a bit of research they made the top of the list of "breed to get." We have 4, with a Wyandotte and a Sussex to round out the group.
Decided to do a little snuggle...
