I haven't updated on Dizzy lately, mostly because she is doing great and partially because I'm lazy. She is 7 weeks old now and her and her brooder mates have moved outside with my 3 teenager chicks. Her eye has completely hazed over and the swelling has receded a bit. She is a feisty little...
my two barred rocks that are mean are only mean if one of the others goes in their pen. But not when free ranging. I dont even know how to get them to be nice. Separating them does nothing because they are already separated and they prefer it that way.
Thanks! I think she's pretty too. The other chicks dont pick on her so far. I'm more concerned with the big teenage chickens when they end up all together. I hope they are nice to her. I may end up with a "loony" bin for dizzy and any other more docile birds. My 2 7 month old barred rocks are...
from what I've been told in here it seems to be genetic. It's like water on the brain or something. I can't remember the actual term but if you read back a few pages I asked about it 3 weeks ago on this thread.
awwwwwwww thank you! I am very hopeful that she will make it and thrive! I noticed yesterday that she is rubbing her eye on her shoulder. She might be getting a bit uncomfortable with it now. But otherwise she is still doing great. :) I think I will be taking weekly pics to post in here.
My poor Dizzy. 2 weeks old today. She is feathering out nicely and good coloring. She is content and growing so I am hesitant to put her down. She just has a big eye that seems to be growing. But she appears to not be in pain and is eating, drinking, and not being picked on by her 5 brooder...
isn't she cute?! So awkward but so cute. She is very scared of people though. The day after I got her I was thinking she thought I was her mama but not anymore. She's independent.
My salmon baby from Ideal has a bulging eye :/ if I had known this breed is prone to issues I would have chosen a different breed since I was ordering from a hatchery.
Yes my order was from Ideal as well. I have no intentions of breeding any birds ever so that is a non issue for me. But I am sad that she has this problem. I was very excited for her. If she makes it I am ok with having a gimpy bird though. :) Obviously I'd prefer a healthy one but blind in one...
HELP needed! I just got my day old chicks order and my Salmon Faverolle has a buldging eyeball. The eyeball itself is huge. She is a bit wobbly too. She is attempting to eat but I haven't seen her drink. I don't know if this could be caused by being pecked in the eye by one of the other chicks...
