Thanks :-) I hope your hens did the trick keeping your eggs warm! Very lucky you had them.
Not a wonderful photo, but you can see his toes alright. The uppermost toe is the extra.
Hey gang, does anyone know of a good source for LF Salmon Favs in or around the Kansas City area? I haven't lost a bird all winter and last night a raccoon got into one of my coops and wiped out all my Faverolles. :-( I can't tell you how upset I am. I have lots of chickens and the Faverolles...
I had read that Faverolles don't do well in a mixed flock because they're so easily bullied. I've watched my group very closely, because the Favs are my favorite and I want to make sure they have happy lives. So far, in my group of 43 birds (8 are roos and two of those are Favs) everyone seems...
I finally managed to get a couple pictures of my cockerel Angus today. I plan to pen him with my three Faverolles girls and see if I can't hatch a few chicks this year. This first one is a bit blurry but it's the only one where he's standing in a normal postion.
I was standing over him in...
Agreed! I've always read that they were a docile breed and when I got my first Favs in late June, they grew to be the most TAME chicks... then chickens I've ever had. They were not hand raised or raised in a small batch. I had around 50-60 birds out here and the Favs weren't treated any...
I'm with you on this topic. It's only a "breed" when it can breed true for several generations with no throwbacks. Labradoodles require a lab and a poodle. If you mate 2 doodles you get pups with inconsistent qualities. Nope, not a breed.
I snapped a pic of my pullet Honey yesterday. I guess she was shocked that I took pictures of her preening! LOL! I thought it was cute and figured I'd share
I'm sure I read somewhere that the breed is called Faverolles and that the S is there when talking about one or a dozen. It's not like a Brahma where you're adding an s for plural... one Brahma, two Brahmas. With Faverolles it's one Faverolles, two Faverolles, etc.
Can someone more learned...
Oh what fun! That will be one highly doted on single chick. Can't wait to see the pics.
And I'm always a sucker for excess chickens... send 'em my way! LOL!
I'm getting anxious for my broody's nest to hatch. I need to check the caledar to see for sure how much time she has left.
I won't have...
As I said, I know nothing about showing and have everything to learn! I just noticed that there seemed to be much more detail given about what toes should look like verses any other characteristic. Perhaps I should shush and spend more time reading? lol!
That makes me so happy! I understand that the toes are the breed hallmark and good toes are a must. I've never shown a bird... ever... I know nothing about it. But I have one cockerel named Angus that I keep watching. He's a broad little beast, his color seems more consistent than my other young...
Ya... the first timer that hatched out 18 was a silky/orpington cross. I used to have pictures of her trying to cover all those chicks with their heads sticking out of her feathers all over. LOL! But my son-in-law lost all the THOUSANDS of photos from my old computer. :( I'll have to see if my...
Well hopefully your broody gives you a baby/babies soon. Any idea how long she's been sitting at this point?
It's been quite a few years since I had a broody hen and one of my Australorp ladies is sitting now. She's not quite a year old, so I'm hopeful that she'll be a regular for raising...
