Out of my two D'anvers, my porcelain is the pure devil. I never leave the coop unless I'm bloody. He is vicious. If I reach to refill the feeder he attacks, if I reach for the waterer, same deal. Everything is his and he makes sure I know it.
So sorry to hear about your Maura. We are still hurting from losing our Georgia, doesn't seem right to go to the coop and not see her. Loss is the "not so fun side" of chicken keeping.
Cyn, not sure if you have had any luck in getting Maura healed up, but I read an interesting article in Backyard Poultry about how an ingrown feather could cause infection and create a huge cyst like that. Didn't know if she might be doing any spring molting or not, but it made me think of her...
