I just love the EE too. Wouldn't want to be with out them--my first chicken was/is a EE, she'd actually sitting beside me here as I type, and it's all her fault I have so many chickens.
Becky I have EE and Am roosters. I can only speak for my birds. I love the EE hens. THese came from McMurray. Sweet birds; my boys always play with them even a year later. THey lay a good size egg; I don't have a scale to actually measure the egg but IMO they look like a large-xlg. One of my...

I love the creme eggs, sooooo pretty. I have my first hen that lays a very pale pink egg and I have hatched many of her chicks ( white egg layers and brown egg layers) and plan to hatch more this season. Her all black daughter lays a creme egg. Love it!!

OK. I won't try to breed for lavs specifically. I'll enjoy them if and when they do show up.Perhaps I should wait for extras from a friend working on a lav project to increase the frequency of the lav genes. I really like the EE for the variety of colors. THank you.
How do I create a breeding plan using the 2 brothers that are split for lav to create lav birds I have 0 hens carrying lav. Is hen base color important; I have several colors.
THe 2 black Am each have leakage in the hackle area. One is rusty red; the other is white. One boy carries gold, I think double gold? Not sure about this. If he was double for gold, wouldn't he be red all over instead of black.
Am I understanding this correctly? Offspring with dirty yellow...
Illia,
No splash offspring? Are 2 splash genes required to show the splash coloring? If so, then I could breed the F1 together and hope for a few splash?
ANother of my ameraucana roosters is black based with lav and gold. Do you know if double lav is required to express the lav coloring...
I'm no color expert, but I"m interested in the anser as I 'm planning the same color cross, only I'm using a blue Ameraucana on the same color EE hen. My blues carry the splash gene. COuld be a variety of colors resulting, and all pretty.
Happy Thanksgiving all!
Love the pics! Keep them coming. All so beautiful. I haven't culled any of my boys yet--they are so pretty to look at out in the flock . . . .of turkeys! THey were hatched and raised with turkeys.
I still cannot tell him from her--I look at the feathers. Very difficult . So I wait until my boys tell a rooster has been doing the rooster thing. Basic, but works for me.
