So I think we had a change in dominance last night. Our little CCL "Twisty" has been the main cockerel for our group and he does a great job of looking out for the ladies but last night our SFH Thor and him had a sort of "battle for dominance". No actual fighting of any kind. They had a long...
I won't keep the extra Roos. We will try to get rid of them or I will process. (we do have a neighbor that will take any extra roos, as well) I don't want my lovely ladies getting TOO much attention from them.
yea i don't plan on keeping the extra roos. I have a neighbor that will take all...
That is kind of what I was thinking. I would like to get a couple of lines to start with and then kind of go from there. We started this spring by getting 6 chickens and two ducks. They got killed by a predator and we re-did the coop and got more. We are up to 17 total now but only the two...
thank you. I'm glad I was worried they were going to be more white but have been darkening up as he gets older. My little pullet though has gorgeous yellow legs! I hope in the spring to purchase some eggs/chicks to start a breeding program. Would like to get some SL's and some Germans but...
Adorable chicks and though it doesn't really mean anything your dark one does remind me a lot of my little boy when I got him. Same kind of stance and "look" to him. Best of luck to you and these are wonderful pix.
Thanks for the compliments. I am still a newbie though so I will have to defer your questions to someone with way more knowledge than I! I am trying to improve my knowledge of the breeds I have but with working 60 hours a week and taking care of the animals it hasn't left room for a lot of...
Just wanted to add a couple new pics of my kiddos from over the weekend. I think Thor's legs are turning from a flesh to a mottled kind of color. Freja is starting to get some blue in her hackles though I don't think any of the pics really show it. Anyways just showing off my loves!
Lisa,
I appreciated the info. I don't plan on selling my SFH's but might breed for myself and learning what others have found out is very helpful to me. Thanks for bringing up the vaulted skull, this wasn't something I had known about until reading it on here. (different thread but still on...
They are right about 9 weeks old. I think they are nice looking too, this is my first time raising chickens and right now I'm not concerned with all the "show" quality or anything. I just want sweet, pretty chickens that lay me some eggs!!!!
From what I've heard...though I don't know for sure...yellow are the most desired, flesh are acceptable and white are not. I don't really care either way. I'm not selling them and if I do breed it would just be for my flock and a couple neighbors.
No he's not a cross. He is pure...it's kind of hard in the pics to tell but his legs are actually a really light flesh color, almost white but not quite.
My son set the game cam up in the chicken run so I thought I'd share a few pics with y'all!
There's my pretty boy!!
And then there is curious miss Freja!
I am a newbie as well and don't know much about what you are "supposed" to be looking for in regards to color but I think he'll be very nice looking. He looks a lot like my boy though yours has darker legs it looks like (which is supposed to be good, I've heard) and more flowering in his chest...
Yes that is where I got the two I already have! I was just looking at getting some different bloodlines to mix in with mine!! Sir Windsor Farms is great. They are wonderful people and have an amazing farm with good quality stock. I may go back to him as well if I can't find other bloodlines...
