I guess I was looking at it as similar to sizzles; after so many generations of breeding true to standards (in the case of sizzles-silkie) the offspring should breed true. I thought maybe someone had put a lot of work into making a frizzle that breeds true to SFH standards (Tho I guess I don't...

X2 except I love frizzles and I'd certainly buy it if I were closer! Hen or roo I'd love a SFH frizzle. I hope what you hatch now is what you want. I understand paying a lot for eggs and not wanting surprises!

Chickens are something special. :) that was great. Our flowers follow my 8 year old son everywhere. @KYTinpusher I am so sorry for your losses recently. That boy was gorgeous. I'm sure the ladies miss him. And that girl was beautiful too. Let us know how the hatch goes!

Are they under a red heat lamp? Or heat lamp on all the time? I had a similar issues with some silkies months ago, I think mine were due to the constant red light but I can't remember where I read that. I finally caved and bought some brinsea ecoglows and haven't had the problem since. (I have...

I'd say mine also prefer foraging to grain but as chicks they were ravenous at the food bowl. I thought I'd go broke feeding them :) Also mine are just as friendly as cochins so that's pretty nice. They will follow people everywhere. And MOST of my boys were obvious by 4-6 weeks, except 1 that...

Well said! I couldn't agree more! Also, to whitetailfever I am so sorry for your loss. I would be devastated as I'm sure you and your kids are. Some people may be cat people or dog people but I have a son who's a chicken person. It's hard loving such fragile creatures sometimes, but well worth it.

What vitamins do you add and do you use them with all your breeds? I would like to do more for my hatchlings (silkies and jubilee orpingtons this round) but not real sure where to start.

X2 of all my chickens the SFHs are the first ones ready for bed. But, in their defense they're early birds ;)

Truly! This site is dangerous. I do not need to add another breed to my list! Seriously!!! And I do see the spots on the little one but I'm no expert. I do have a full SFH from a breeder that I completely trust and her legs aren't totally yellow, but they're definitely not spotted. Is that...

I don't think anyone wants to be a bearer of bad news. That's just not how folks on the BYC are. Glad you get what you want either way. I know there are lots of folks here with boys we're unable to keep/rehome.

I'd love to see more pictures of her, she looks so beautiful! And I have a very sad boy/girl ratio right now. 2 boys 3 girls :( and it looks like 5 out of my 6 chicks are boys. I do have some EEs I'm growing out but there's likely only 2 or 3 girls. So with my guesses that's still only 6 or 7...

Wow those boys are beautiful! I LOVE the first 2. I'm not in the market for any more boys tho. Just processed 2 of ours last weekend; it was not an easy thing to do. I was planning to do 3 but 1 of them I just wasn't ready to say bye to. And mine like to hang out on the porch just waiting for...

I'm also curious @Melabella if you have any clue as to what your chicks are yet? I actually think of my 6 chicks I have 5 cockerels. As it is I have 3 beautiful boys destined for freezer camp this weekend :( it breaks my heart. I was hoping to keep 2 boys but I just don't have the girls.

Here's my EE/SFH. A lady in Oklahoma has been breeding them. Some look more SFH than others. And about this boy, is he blue based or splash based? I was certain splash but now Im not so sure! What about this girl?
