I do let my shipped eggs rest for 24 hours before putting them into the incubator. This batch I let rest for 36 hours. I also read that you should not turn them for the first couple of days. Usually I turn the turner on right away or in 24 hours but I heard it's better to do it between 3 and...
I have some SFH in the incubator now. Only 6 because of USPS. I'm surprised I have any given the circumstances. 3 eggs were broken out of 17. Only 3 did not start. One was an early quitter and 4 more quit soon after. I'm hoping they hatch well. I usually have problem when it comes time to...
Now that my favorite Roos is gone I have a few more growing out. I was really liking a crested cockerel to put with my non crested hens. His comb was coming in nice and straight. The problem is he has a side sprig. I'm thinking I should just cull him but was wondering what everyone here...
Sorry this is a late post but my roo was very aggressive. Could not turn your back and he even came at you head on. I finally sent him to the pot after he attacked my 2 year old for the last time. All my kids were afraid of him and I did not want to use a bird with that kind of aggression for...
Wanted to know what you all think about my SFH roo. He is the only mature one I have at the moment. He is 21 weeks old from GFF. I want to breed him to some hens I have from TOFH. I think he is handsome and was really impressed with his overall size and growth rate. He is in with various...
I too prefer the method you described, I just found it odd that the eggs never started or quit early. I am assuming trauma from shipping as I hatched other eggs in the same bat or at the same time and they were fine.
If you can get live chicks it's usually better then eggs. I have had most of my eggs from shipping develope until hatch then die before piping because of malpositions. I also got SFH eggs from different breeders from different states. Another breed was included in one of the orders. The SFH...
I believe snoleapord is the rarest. I also find black based a bit harder to get. At least really nice ones. Then the blues. I have 2 really nice blues. At least I think they are nice.
I keep saying if I'm getting mostly pullets, then somewhere someone has to be getting mostly males. It's good to have a large number of males to choose from. Especially when taking personality into account. You can have a "perfect" bird but if he's nasty or to rough with the girls you may...
