I have yorkies and border collies too. They got along with my chickens too. But then something got into my backyard(maybe raccoon or a fox) and killed all my chickens. If my dogs were outdoor dogs, I don't think the chickens would be dead now.
I'm a little bit of shock right now. Something got into my coop yesterday night. My silkies are all missing. It killed all my orps but left the bodies in my yard. It didn't even eat them!!
My fault! Being they were huge and in a fenced in yard I didn't think anything could get over the...
I believe Splash X Black = will produce blue. But don't quote me on it since I do not breed orps. I only have a couple and they are my backyard eye candy. Right now my orps are raising 4 silkie chicks. They are very good mothers and take really good care of the silkies. So I do believe they...
Okay guys, you have to straighten me out a little since I'm still new to chickens and orps. Just read a post on BYC about this person that has some lavender orps that were hatched from BLUE eggs. I'm going "WHAT?!!!". So can lavender orps lay blue eggs or did this person bought a orps/maybe...
Thank you for the info! Being first time chicken owner I don't have a clue what is normal or not. I did stick some silkie eggs under them and if everything works out, they should hatch in the next couple of days. Maybe then I will have some fat orps again.
Got a question. My orps been broody for the last 2+ month. Finally decided to stick a couple of eggs under them and hopefully get them out of this broodiness. Well yesterday noticed that 2 out of my 3 hens has lost so much weight from refusing to leave the nest to eat. Is this normal?
I found a old video clip of my "clicker training" sessions when my chickens when they were chicks. Thought I would share it. They were taught to touch a target for food. I transfer the behavior to a bell on my back door. Kind of like when a dog rings a bell to go outside. Actually it was the...
I thought I post a couple of pictures of my birds.
And here is a picture of my miniature psuedo- border collie who is a retired chicken herder because my chickens are twice as big as she is now and no longer put up with her chasing them back into the pen.
