How old are they? and what is your reasoning for culling now? These guys take a while to develop. I can't tell from the pictures how good the eye color is or if there are faults with the combs, but if it were me I would hang onto them until they are older to decide.

Quote: I'll let you know in a week. I am putting about 10 eggs in the bator tonight from 50% birds. Prior to collecting, I was using the eggs and they were fertile. I have since trimmed the rooster a bit but not the hens. The eggs I'm about to incubate though are from totally untrimmed rooster...

Ok just to not make you all panic, there is an age range for those birds the oldest would be just turning 6 months and the youngest about 5 months. The big blue girl would be on the older age. Carolyn

On Tuesday we had a storm pass through and dump a lot of rain, it cooled the air off temporarily but then the heat from the wet ground made it very steamy it felt like a sauna, worse then when it was dry. I have fans running all the time and I put frozen 2liter bottles behind them so that the...

I'm so sorry Kathy, those dense feathers just don't seem to let the heat out. The real hot weather has just only hit us hard this past week. I can't imagine 3+ weeks of this. Does anyone know if soaking the birds helps or does it just make them heavy and steamy? I have been making my heavy ones...

I tried the food coloring twice the first time I only had one hen that had color on her eggs, the rest I had beautifully colored poop! The second time I tried it one hen had just a trace on the first egg layed and that was it. Unless I'm doing it wrong I haven't had good luck with it. Is there...

Thanks for all the input I guess I won't be taking any to the Poultry swap in Sharpsburg. I'm just worried that I will have way to many birds for the winter. I have 30 in the bator from my other rooster that are due to hatch next week. I will have plenty to sell come fall. I tried uploading...

I have a question for everyone with blue's. I need to pare down my blue chicks, I currently have about 30! They are 6 weeks old. They vary in color from dark gray to light blue. I thought it would be easy to pick which ones to keep. All seem to have the correct eye color at this point. Any...
