I had some Lavender Ameraucanas that hatched with chipmunk stripes..... they feathered in at first grey on the wings like a lavender and now they are SOLID white.

I did just a tiny big of research and all I could find was the purple is the mahogany gene. I didn't do any further research, because I knew from other readings for my breeds you don't want to breed mahogany genes forward.

A brine is really a mix of salt and sugar. If you just use salt..... it might be TOO salty I add all kinds of stuff... pepper, rosemary, thyme really anything you like. I usually soak for several days.
I have never found my turkey to be salty after a brine. I use kosher salt and sugar in equal amounts... usually 1 cup each and some juice like orange juice and cranberry juice but really ANY kind will work. I don't add any salt after the brine though but it is flavored all the way through...
I have found a 22% feed that uses PORK as the protein. LOVE the stuff. They have everything you can need for chickens and other livestock. I don't know that it is available up north but you could call them and find out. Tuckers is the name of the feed they have a website...
