Bob is a major loss to all of us who value Heritage Chickens. Very few have the knowledge of chicken conformation and laying selection that Bob had, and even fewer have the gift of being able to share it as Bob did.
I was a regular reader of this thread because of his wisdom and inputs. I...
Statistically the male contributes on average 51% of the genes, and the female 49%. But, in addition, the female contributes the mitochondria DNA which has a big effect on type, growth, and maternal influences. I lurk, and havent posted in a long time but I appreciate the input here, a lot of...
Thanks Jim
I am really glad to hear this, I worked for Fish & Game etc in the NW a lot 30 yrs ago and I continually ran into people who didnt have a clue about anything that wasnot in their specialty.
I am sure that this is one of those cases.
I am glad that reason won through on this...
The American Minor Breeds Conservancy has a list, but its often outdated, I honestly dont know who keeps a list of heritage breeds by ranking and rarity. If Robert was online he could shed some light on this. There is another rare breeds thread here that might have a ranking.
To me they are...
I did similar, got rid of my hatchery RIRs, and replacing with from a breeder, Duane Urch,
I am also hoping for some Icelandics this year, and slowly searching for some other old breeds. Hopefully next year can add on or more extra.
They are beautiful chicks, would sure like to see six mos and yearling photos of them. My compliments to Pine Grove and the Lady that you got them from.
Well, I guess we got a lot of folks here that need to get their birds to shows this year, I am sorry my pullets and roos wont be showable this year, maybe one or two will be far enough along just for an exhibit though. I hope to have SQ LF Partridge Wyandottes and RC RIRs to show next year. My...
Hi Charlie
Thanks for the info on the RC RIRs, I will contact him,
I saw the listing of the Narragansetts on Duanes listing, but thought they were hatchery birds so I will contact him on them too.
I have seen some big roos in other heritage breeds, the biggest we had was a Barred Rock, and...
I am getting both RC RIRs LF and Partridge Wyandottes LF from Duane Urch this year, and LF Partridge Wyandottes from Pauly Poultry. I'd like to find another source of RC RIRs LF from another SQ Heritage Breeder, a dozen or so,
also, if its doable some Narragansett Turkeys from Porter Turkeys...
I just received Duan Urch's listing in the mail, and am ordering some of his RC RIRs and Partridge Wyandottes,
I am really interested in both breeds, as kid we had RC RIRs, and as an adult I had White Wyandottes for many years,
Would love to hear from others with both breeds, as it stands...

Hi
This is a great thread, slowly working through it, wish it was ina split section with separate threads,
I am a Wyandotte fan, my favorite is the Partridge, a friend wrote me about Pauls Poultry in Fla, anyone here dealt with them?
They seem pricey but the pictures on their site show some...
