Then you would not have been happy here this morning! Zero with a wind-chill of -15 or so. We're up to eleven now, but the wind has picked up. At least the sun is out today.

It's the same in any traditionally male dominated hobby or profession. I farm and have a cow herd with my husband. I keep all the farm books, spend many hours in the tractor and grain trucks and out with the cows.....yet most salesmen ask for my husband and I've had some even hang up...

I can hardly wait to see the pictures, Beth!
Ducks, Beth? They are so messy, aren't they? Chicken poop is one thing, but poopy water ..... yuk! I can't do ducks. Do they have to have thawed water in the winter, too?
Yes, yes, yes ..... pictures!
Ducks are definately messier...

I agree about giving credit where credit is due, but there's a way to share the name of a breeder without being a name dropper. When those names are included in many, many posts and often used as tho they are your best buddy then to me it becomes name dropping.
Mrs. Turbo :
We had a little luck at Lucasville, OH this weekend winning BV Silver Laced Wyandotte and Best of Breed with a Silver Laced Wyandotte Hen.

True of some people I'm sure, but not all of us. I don't show, but am very picky about what I keep in my breeding pens.
Again that may be true of some areas of the country, but even in my very rural community most people have internet access.

They need to get with the CSA folks, the people at Mother Earth News, and all the homegrown, buy local type of movement and really start their own PR movement. Show folks why a well bred BR or a Wyandotte, Delaware, New Hampshire, Australop, RIR is to their advantage vs a hatchery bred...

I wish I could, but I just can't justify driving 4+ hours.
4 hours is a commute drive here in Calif. The shortest drive I have to a show is 4 hours, longest 8 hours. That is just within CA.

Well, since I see the picture now, I should be able to find you (Walt) at the Tulsa, OK show easy enough (even without a pink shirt).
Now, to get Katy to come along! Come on Katy, it would be lots of fun!
I wish I could, but I just can't justify driving 4+ hours.

Never thought of spell check. I'm so old I looked it up in a dictionary.
Young people don't have dictionary's
I'm not young and I always keep a dictionary by my computer. I rarely think to use spell check either.
Thanks all.....I've only found one APA sanctioned show closer than 4 or 5 hours from me and I just can't afford the money or the time away from our farm. I have them for my own enjoyment and not to make money off of so I really couldn't justify it. It would be fun to be able to go to the shows...
Well since Rebecca has broken the ice away from the BRs I guess I can post some pictures of mine too. She and Jerry helped me get my start with my SLWs about 18 months ago.

Where do you draw the line? If this is the only measuring stick that the Heritage folks can use is the APA standard can use or choose to use, then you have to use it and if you don't meet the criteria then sorry but the breed isn't considered heritage. At some point the line has to be...

Very nice Kathy
I need to clarify .... these are NOT my birds. These pictures are from the seller who is selling me birds. This stock came from Good Shepherd Poultry Ranch stock. Bob told me that Frank Reese (Good Shepherd Poultry Ranch) has the old Ralph Sturgeon Line that goes back...

In Kansas you can apply to become a Century Farm. I should do it since our farm has ben in our family for 125+ years. I never think about doing it tho until after that year's deadline. Ours doesn't keep track of what livestock is or has been raised on it tho.
