Ohh, I like that idea to make one of those for a broody!! Awesome idea!!
My hubby was thinking about making some to sell off CL this summer, we'll see if he gets around to it, lol.
We build our nest boxes too, we actually took the design from the metal nest boxes you can buy. I don't have a very good picture of it sitting the right way, unfortunately, but you can kind of get an idea from this:
The wood slants upwards to make it taller and leave the opening end shorter...

If you choose to do this, you risk exposing your rabbits to diseases, parasites (wild rabbits) and predators (owls, coons etc). You certainly may... but I wouldn't do it. Not to mention, you won't be able to control breeding by the pair, and that of any offspring.
I would also...
I sell mine for $10 at about 6-7 weeks. I don't breed specifically to sell though so we can sell a few and be happy with that because the rest are for the freezer

Wow, now that was an interesting site. I now know the difference and how to tell. Thank you so much.
I bookmarked it for future reference also.
Once you've done it, it's pretty easy. If you can't get it right away, the bun just needs to grow a little bit more I always thought it...
http://www.debmark.com/rabbits/sexing.htm About sexing rabbits, it's pretty easy. In young rabbits, the female has a slit and the male has an O that kinda reminds me of a cheerio - I found that somewhere on the internet so I always remember it that way when I'm sexing my bunnies. But at an older...
We find big sticks and cut them into a few inch pieces and that's what we give them to chew on.
I LOVE frozen water bottles - I swear by them in the summer!! Some pages back, I even posted a pic that has one of my does and a baby lying against one, lol

lol Well at least I know now that she was definitely ready to be bred! They're both experienced, it was just my first time seeing that in the few years I've been breeding lol
I never thought of using the prep. h, good idea!! She always has something to rest on.. she's just stubborn I guess, lol.
As for the cages, we have used a Dremel, my husband loves that SO much more! It gets those stupid sharp edges too because you can cut closer. We broke ours though and...
I forgot to ask earlier and for some reason, as I'm getting ready for bed, this popped into my head.. I'm such a freak lol. Anyway, on Monday when I was breeding the rabbits (Hey, I thought it might be good luck!) one of my does (the one who is always ready to be bred and is the perfect momma)...
Ohh, that's a good idea!! Thanks!! And g'night!!! Oh, and good idea about the babies too I never thought of that!
dmiravalle - Good luck on your girl tomorrow, I'll have my fingers crossed for ya!
Rex, and not very thick but I didn't know that when I first started breeding and now I'm attached to her My husband works where they're always throwing out big plastic mats so we take them and cut 'em down so that they have big mats to rest on. She does well when she has a few of those in her...
You did great explaining! lol I don't do well in that department either - I can think it just fine but somehow I lose the ability to explain somewhere between my brain and fingers/mouth.
About the hocks - I've noticed that the only doe I've had trouble with breeding does get sore hocks once in...
Yeah, 60 degrees is warm enough for the kit. Just make sure it's on lots of hay and snuggled up in momma's fur. About the mint leaves, just make sure not to give it to her if you do breed her again right away so that you're not risking her being dry when she does have another litter.

Was that her first litter? I had one like that once, but instead of any living she just had one really stretched out dead baby. Her next litter was perfectly fine! I always hope that the first time a doe has a perfectly healthy litter but like Luvducks said, it's not uncommon to have...
