Just have to say that I love the local consignment shop! I've taken some children's clothing in there to sell on consignment. I went in to look at some jeans for myself and I had $10.00 available in my account. I bought a very new looking pair of jeans, a summer outfit for baby boy and a shirt...

Our 2012 goals would be to save more and put aside more for retirement. We'd like to buy hubby a newer truck with cash within the next two years. He needs a very reliable heavy duty diesel for what he does, so even used we are looking at $25,000-$30,000. Needless, to say we need to get saving...

My homemade detergent seems to have made my clothes feel softer, especially my towels. I didn't expect that.

Quote: Beekissed, do you have a high efficiency washer? I'm a hobbyist soapmaker. About the time I considered making my own laundry detergent, my washer broke down and we replaced it with a high-efficiency model. I know that standard storebought detergent would gum it up... do you know much...

Thanks! Just wondered if anybody else stores their sugar in the basement. My hubby is self employed and sells/distributes Voortman Cookies. So he has these wonderful sturdy wooden displays that make excellent shelving for all my canned goods, pasta, rice, etc.

Quote: Since I make my own wine, I usually have several 50 lb bags in the garage. I buy them in plastic bags, so if they aren't opened, they hold up fine. Even in the damp WA state, opened bags don't seem to be affected by mold, although they do clump a bit! Sugar is a natural preservative, so...

Quote: I just stocked up at Sam's. Thinking I might as well get a few more if I go back in the next couple of weeks. I miss the days when Kroger used to run their brand of PB 10 for $10 for 18oz jars. Those that buy large amounts of sugar -- do you use the food grade buckets to store it...

I'm loving my homemade powdered laundry detergent! My clothes feel softer. Just thought I'd post the recipe I used: http://www.diynatural.com/simple-easy-fast-effective-jabs-homemade-laundry-detergent/. There is a large recipe and then a smaller one. I made the smaller one just to be sure that I...

These rainy days have helped me to de-clutter my home even more. My house isn't cluttered, but I can't believe the amount of stuff that I'm able to donate to a local church. Cleaned out my oldest DD's room. She has a hard time keeping up with it. Cleaned out many toys that she would not even...

Quote: I made some about two weeks ago. I did the powdered version, though. Did a small batch up, which is supposed to do around 64 loads -- wanted to be sure that I liked it. So far so good! It was easy! One box Borax, one box washing soda, and a grated bar of laundry soap (I used...

Quote: It depends whether it is grass fed or has supplemental feed. Are you going to have it processed or is your dad going to process it? Lots of variables to consider. If it is grass fed and your dad processes it, it will be the purchase price plus any meds like Ivermectin and such. I used to...

HeatherLynn -- I've spent about 1.5 hours going through everything. Also loved the platter where you take chalkboard paint to the center then you can hang and write cute messages in the center. Sooo cute! Think I'll be making the lap desk for my oldest as a gift, too. I see them at Target and...

I do love Craigslist! We bought DD a new bike two years ago. She's really only rode it this past year, though. The darn tires dry rotted even though it had been cared for and not left outside when not in use. It had white tires and since we've heard of others having the same issue with those...

Here's a link for homemade cleaners: http://chickensintheroad.com/house/crafts/simple-green-homemade-cleaners/. I've used the glass cleaner recipe many times. I use vinegar and water for mopping. Vinegar is my dishwasher rinse aid. I use bleach/water for some cleaning, too. I am waiting to use...

Another thing that I've found to help out on the grocery bill is to go to a local meat/fruit/veggie market that is open year round. We have a very small chain of them around here. They buy local veggies and fruit when in season and the rest of the year most of the produce comes from the US...

Quote: I completely understand! My MIL is the same way. She didn't care that our house was filled to capacity and then some. To her, she wanted to see boxes stacked to the ceiling! So not how we roll here. Like you said, different kinds of people. I'm just glad my kids aren't materialistic and...

Yes, I wouldn't fight with her. I have nicely let her know that we don't always keep everything around when she's asked before. I now just get rid of it without a thought otherwise. We are just different people. She doesn't see our kids much even though we are a few miles apart -- maybe once...
