It's really easy to do. If you don't have a darning gadget (can't remember it's name) a used lightbulb will do. You use it inside the sock to form a smooth area in the sock where you are darning, and you weave the thread back and forth through the original wool. Use a fairly lightweight but...

I'm very familiar with the CA issues about water - especially North versus South etc. Up here, they tell us well people we are only allowed to pump so much water a day (because of the aquifer) but I can't see how they can enforce it, there's no meter on the well! I can imagine that generator...

A beautiful sight indeed! We got rid of all our poultry late winter, so that the pasture could recover (we overstocked) so now we have a lovely new pasture with 8 duckling, and so far, three juvie chickens. The incubator has eggs due to hatch next weekend, so we will hopefully have a few...

Yeah, I don't like them that way. BUT, you can slice them, blanch them , THEN dry them. They can be cooked like gratin potatoes and they turn out quite well.

Speak for yourself, for me the jury's still out. Not enough scientific evidence either way for me to decide. Just because someone in the New York Times or other mag prints an article, doesn't make it so. And then there are unscrupulous scientists who are self serving and would tell us...

I'm with you. It's sad that we are afraid to share our bounty because there are some that are sue-happy. I'm very careful about who I give eggs and meat to. Most of the people who get my birds, get them live so it's not a big issue.

nok13 check back to post post #2214 of 2217 you will see that I was simply stating my preference for "unhandled" fruit and vegetables. So I'm not sure what brought on the response that followed. There are many places around the world where food is mistreated, and certainly not safe to eat...

I grant you everything you said above. HOWEVER, squeezing fruit damages the flesh and it begins the bruising process immediately. Yes, I wash my fruits/veggies before eating them, but I still prefer them handled as little as possible by others. I get my stuff locally - minimally...
