How do you tell 4 week old cockerels and pullets by coloring? I have some with dark coloring and no noticeable combs, is that consistent with this breed. Others are red/orange and little other coloring.
Does the thought that Yellow are males and reddish colored are females in the chicks or is it best to wait till 3-4 weeks to tell males? I had 13 hatch from the 25 shipped and have I believe 50/50 if the above theory is true.
Both were packed amazingly. None broke and 3 extra from each buyer. The Texas ones were bigger in size and the ones that haven't hatched and don't look like they will are the bigger ones. The smaller ones all hatched from both groups. Definetly something to considered when keeping notes.
I put 19 egss out of 26 shipped eggs into lockdown on the 22nd and 14 are hatching or hatched since yesterday morning. They are Basque hens and doing great. After my last hatch where 7 out the 14 of SFH eggs that went into lockdown and nothing, this has helped the confidence. Not a bad hatch...
Maybe I'm wrong but there are several different versions of coloring that are acceptable for this breed of chicken correct and Marraduna is just one of the colors?
Candled 2 eggs last night out of the 26 in the incubator. One from each group of eggs I got and great veining on both.(day 5 1/2) Starting turning last night. Now to wait till day 10 to candle them all. Fingers crossed.
Apronstrings thanks for the eggs they look great and I will let you know how it turns out. Hoping for the best. I had 7 SFH eggs in lockdown and not one hatched hoping better with the EOs.
