One thing that I've thought of is that the "derp" gene has to be recessive. If there was anything noticeably wrong with the two parents of Derp and Susie, they wouldn't be bred. So, even if you bred a derp chicken, the effects might not appear in that generation; but later down the line it...

spazzy susie is not intellectually challenged at all. She is simply unique. She is very brave, and also has some survival skills up her sleeve. She was lost during a severe all night snowstorm earlier this month. And survived! we found her the next morning almost in the neighbors yard.I picked...

yep. She enjoys getting lost and was missing all night during a snowstorm,was temporarily a house chicken due to an injury, and has cheek floofs that are always in her eyes. the other one we got looks just like your Coho. Creepy isn't it?

I sadly think it's genetic. I got a salmon faverolle pullet on halloween who now looks and acts exactly like derp. once i get pics i'll show you.
