I've been using the same old incubator forever.
My husband, trying to be nice, bought me a "better" digital one.
After only getting blood rings during candling I bought another external thermometer, and it's running at 104! No wonder everything is dying. I can't figure out a way to alter the...
Experienced hatchers--
I've always had really good hatch rates in the past and only use mail order eggs as I can't keep roosters. I have also ordered eggs in the dead of summer and the middle of winter and still had good results.
Today is Day 7. I had over 50 eggs from multiple sellers go in...
@JekkaLynn : I had some eggs break, some sellers sent extras, one more box coming today, all in all I estimate about 55 hitting the incubator. Which is too much for my egg turner so guess I'm doing it the Old Fashioned way & turning by hand!
@ozexpat : 14 boxes to an apartment!?! Haha now...
I have the most basic Farm Innovators Incubator. I also bought the automatic egg turner. Then eventually the Quail racks. The thermometer isn't the most reliable so I picked up one of those digital reptile ones for like $7. The bator with the egg turner is about $100, so half the price. I...
Question-- Has anyone had a difference in hatchings when hand turning versus an automatic egg turner???
I had already ordered eggs, then had an opportunity to get some more yesterday so I got them without really thinking about it.
I just realized my turner has 42 spots and with extras sent...
Cool!
The babies won't be sex links though, if you didn't already know that, so can't tell gender at birth.
But good to be getting your own chicks!
I don't keep roosters in town so all my eggs are mail order (and not cheap!)
I'm 200 pages behind on this thread, so jumping up to current time.
Decided to break the incubator back out after saying no more hatches (just couldn't stay away!).
I hope you all have been doing well. I see lots of adorable baby pics on the side bar!
Love the quail pics!
I still have to figure out some type of set up for getting mine outside (not that I can move anyone outside in this "polar vortex"!)
For the first time since I got it 8 months ago, my incubator is off my dining room table & packed up in its box. We'll see how long I...
Have you ever been to Schnebly winery??? I believe that is in Redland. We came across it by accident, and had a great time. It's an outdoor vineyard that always seems to have events going on, but they make all their wines without grapes. We did a tasting thing there. My favorite was the...
Runawaylobster, I just now saw you are from Homestead!!!
My husband is stationed at Ft Bragg attached to Special Forces and their HQ for intel into South America is on Homestead Air Base. Over the past 4 years my husband was stationed down there once for 9 months and a second time for 6...
Here are my sweet babies I hatched from RunawayLobster's eggs! I am so happy with them!!!
My husband's finishing up a deployment with the Army right now so watching them incubate/hatch has been a really awesome distraction for my kids!
This one is my favorite!!! She is so sweet. She's...
I want this one it's my fav
I love big furry cats, the bigger the better. My cat is a shelter rescue and he's big and furry like that. Has some of the same striping, but he's not a fancy breed, just some kind of domestic. He's 25lbs though, bigger than the rest of the cats on the block!
Thanks for all the tips!
I think I need to go ahead & get one of those digital temp/humidity monitors not go by the bator.
The ones that did hatch are SO ridiculously cute!!!
There's one olive egger with a Blue Copper Marans dad & I'm guessing an Easter Egger mom because she's got the big...
No pipping. Their heads were folded in their bodies in a weird way.
The Marans were all normal size the Olive Eggers seemed really big (I believe the father was a Marans).
I'm wondering if it has something to do with going from the upright egg turner to lying down in the incubator they are...
I had been wondering if your profile pic was a pixie bob!
I hadn't heard of them until recently (My son's school was selling magazines for fundraiser so let my kids each pick out a subscription they wants and my 2 1/2 year old chose cat fancy haha. There was a big segment on the pixie bobs last...
No I don't measure weight or air cells, I just candle to see which are good for lockdown.
I don't use any water at all during incubation than at lockdown fill the trays and let it go, usually around 70-75% during lockdown.
I put them in day wise on lockdown at the right time, but I think they...
Hey guys I have a dead chick question--
I had 10 eggs go into lockdown and 4 hatched. I had seen them rocking around and had heard chiriping, but they stopped moving all together. I gently started to see if they needed an assist, but they were dead. The 3 Olive Eggers were huge, so I think...
