I found 44 fertile guinea hen eggs if anyone is interested in hatching any guineas. We are in the Piedmont Area of NC - between Winston Salem and Greensboro. I've already got my incubators full.

I don't know what you mean by that but these are happy, healthy little chicks. Mine are about 2 1/2 weeks old now and doing wonderfully. He got his stock from Greenfire Farms. You can always email him and ask for pictures or more info. He was very helpful and nice when I contacted him.

I ordered my Rhodebars from "ray_32690" I have ordered other rare eggs from him and never have received a broken egg and have had excellent hatch rates with his eggs (closer to 80% or more). He is out of Florida.

Thanks for that info and you make a very good point! Either way, I will keep the females for their egg laying and continue to study their genetics. I am so clueless about chicken genetics and need to take a "Chicken Genetics for Dummies" class, I think.
Your chicks look beautiful and...
Interesting. The other ones (females) look just like my Rhodebars from GFF. I hope yours are pure Rhodebars. Apparently, some of mine are not. You can see pics of mine a couple pages back. So sorry about the two that didn't make it....

Do you have photos that you can show us of the homozygous chicks and the heterozygous chicks so we can see the difference? I definitely won't be breeding my chicks since I'm not sure what I have now. I have 3 dark and 3 light. Thanks~!

I will post it later today - I can't remember it but I have it pulled up on my desktop computer at home, I think. I've been to so many trying to figure this out!

So basically, the only way to know if it is a purebred is to do a genetic test?? Interesting.
I think I have 3 females and 3 males. I have 3 that have the chipmunk stripes and are darker than the other 3. The males are a lighter color and don't have as many (if any) stripes - and then the...
Ugh. I was really hoping to get pure breeds. Is it better to go with someone who sells "show quality" birds? I would think they would have to be pure breeds. Aside from that, I guess I'd have to become an expert in chicken genetics so I could spot the "imposters" as chicks....
Interesting...
Now that you mention that, the eggs I got were a very slightly tinted color - maybe very light brown. That is very interesting info about Greenfire..... I guess you just have to know your stuff so that you are aware of the breed standard. That one chick is definitely yellow with little to no...
So how would someone go about getting a purebred Rhodebar. I thought Greenfire was supposed to be a really good source for rare breed chickens and in fact, aren't they the ones who have originally imported many of the rare breeds we have here in the States now??? I thought they were the...
I don't understand the post with the genetic info. I do know that these eggs came from a Rhodebar ONLY pen. There were not any other breeds. The parents came from Greenfire Farms. How could there be a non-Rhodebar out of a Greenfire Farm Rhodebar pen?
Angela
Wow. I wonder why there is such a variation in the coloring? Has anyone else had males that look like mine?? Do you think the three with the chipmunk stripes are definitely females?
Angela
OK. Here are the babies. If you are wondering what happened to the yellow chick's eye, one of my older BCM chicks pecked it - almost killed it, I'm sure. When I got home, all I saw was blood and feared the worst. Fortunately, he will be alright. I cleaned him off with a cotton ball and put...
