Ok these oils are antibotic, antiseptic amd antiviral: CINNAMON, EUCALYPTUS, GARLIC, LAVENDER, OREGANO, TEA TREE, THYME All of those oils could be gotten at a store like Sprouts or Whole Foods, or Amazon. You dont need but a few drops in a spray bottle of vinegar to get the job done.

Lavender is an antiseptic as well as being relaxing. I used a mixture of orange oil and lavender oil in my odka mixture. You could put orange peels and dried lavender in vinegar (or vodka) in a jar or spray bottle,e amd let sit for a week or so. Shake it once a day. The spray away! I would...

Yes vodka is a disinfectant.some people use vinegar for a natural cleanser,, some use vodka. IMO vodka kills more germs. Vinegar is cheaper though so I would use that more often.

@Sylvester017 We replaced the shingles when we cleaned up the coop. This one had the same roll of green stuff on it. We cut a piece of new plywood and put actual house shingles on it. I dont want it leaking as it was in sad shape. I scoured the coop since chickens has lived in it before...

I finished the run today. Just need to add a couple of locks and something to hold the hinged lids up. I am so excited because I planned and built this myself! The skirting is to keep the dog from destroying her paws in her quest to get the chickens. And they will have a swing. I figure if...

Thanks! They haven't tried it yet. But I can easily add the cleats if they have problems. It has roof shingle on it now and I am not sure I like that idea. It came like that.

I want a check on my ventilation and also a question on my pop door. I added 2 vents on either side. The pop door will also be always open. Is this enough from 3 hens? Also, should I really be closing the pop door at night? I would rather leave it open to the run SO I do think have to get an...

The roof is going to be the clear corrugated Poly panels. So they will have protection from rain and snow and still get sunlight. There are several places, like the swing pocket, that will be mostly shade during the day. I built this run as a chicken playground using all the wonderful data...

Yep, HOA. The top next is going to be those clear lightweight corrugated panels set at an angle so snow melts away. Because of the trees and the greenhouse there, it won't get a lot of snow. I got the clear ones so they would get sunshine. I can also attach the panels to the outer wall if...

I can't build it taller, has to be under the fence line. I will see how the snow does. Luckily that pocket of the yard is south facing and any snow mm is usually gone in a day or two. The walls are built up.to accommodate deep litter.

I wanted to update photos of my run. It has a sliding pocket door on it. I designed it to be a tight fit and there is only about 1/2" clearance at the door. When closed, there is 3" overlap on each side between the 2 "walls" of hardware cloth. Mice may get in, but I think that is a risk with...

I am considering adding these for ventilation to my small coop (3 hens). One on each side near the top. Thoughts? http://www.homedepot.com/p/Construction-Metals-3-in-x-3-in-Aluminum-Louver-Vent-ML3/202221309

It isnt done but I have to post because I am so proud of myself! :) I built this all by myself with very little help from my husband. It is my first construction project that I have planned and completed. (and it is even level!) To the left is a long dust bath box. It is getting a hinged lid...
