I had to get my three Golden Comets and five Black Stars out of my house! Chick dust everywhere. So I put the Juvie coop together without any real plan. I knew I wanted vinyl flooring to pull out and clean, suspended cooler with waterer nipples, hanging heat lamp and pvc feeder. It came together...

I think you have an awesome thing going, however I agree with Sylvester017... I too would easily fit under a three foot coop clearance, but what if half your 17 chickens lay eggs under the coop. Personally I would wait till first one lay's egg then block off under coop, till everyone is laying...

Use a bolt lever with a hole in it to slip a d-link or aluminum clip. Wish I had pictures as that would explain perfectly. Will take one tonight. I too was going to do the lock thing, but that got ridiculous fast. You can never protect from predators too much. A hungry animal will find a way...

Most hardware stores (Lowes, HD) and feed stores have the cloth. A washer would work fine on 1/2. I have latches on all my doors with clips

Because it was inside the coop, my first one had a sloping lid so they couldn't roost on it (didn't work). My current one is set back so front of box is flush with coop wall leaving no perch or roost. It projects into my work space, still inside the building. What I discovered is that no matter...

1/4" hardware cloth is easier to tack down and cost about the same as 1/2". I use stainless self tapping screws right through the square to my frame. Lining the bottom two feet will not do much to help as coons climb (as well as just about every other animal I've seen) and a fence would be super...

You need to use 1/4" hardware cloth. It is expensive but it is worth it. I've had people tell me that I need to use hardware cloth for the entire coop and run. I feel that is unnecessary. I use the hardware cloth only on the areas where the chickens sleep/rest against and use 2" by 4" welded...

OjHAYES -Amazing coop. Regarding protection, on the side(so) where the ivy is closer to peak of roof is that chicken wire. My first flock was killed because of the use of chicken wire. Coons will rip chicken wire early..
