They're not exactly keen on change! She'll come around!

Warrigal Greens (aka Native Spinach and NZ Spinach) is a native to Oz and NZ and is a sprawling salt-tolerant perennial which spreads well and also generates very effectively from seeds. It's really rather tasty, but like perennial spinach, is high in oxalates and needs to be blanched and rinsed...

Hi there, I've been so busy the last couple of days and I hope you all don't mind me harking back to a previous post, but throught I'd add some ideas. We are also in Sydney, close to a national park and down a 40m metre driveway which at the starts includes bushland where, every year, a male...

Hi there, we are very close to you, Thornleigh. Welcome to BYC!!! We built our coop and run last winter and got four pullets of different breeds. The Australorp lays very well, is friendly, and a beautiful big bird, she holds her own against cockatoos in the garden! The Rhode Island Red is an...

Here too (NW Sydney) just hit 46. Thank goodness there are no water restrictions - I've had a mister in the chickens' run since 10am. Hate to think of the bill, though as the rainwater tanks are long dry. Still, rather than that dead chooks. Roll on that storm!

I thought of the garage but if anything it seems hotter than outdoors. My husband knows how much I love the chickens - so the spare bathroom was his idea. On the condition I cleaned up afterwards, of course!

Hope you got through it ok. We're in NW suburbs of Sydney and it got to 44C in our backyard. I have one of those misters set up in the run but I wasn't certain it would be enough for my 4 x 30-week-olds..... so I brought them into a spare, airconditioned bathroom. Took them back out at 7am this...
