Al, I am a newbie but have been reading for a while. My DH and I have been married 30 years. When we got married, an older gentleman gave my husband a cast iron skillet with directions: Place by the bedside and hit her on the fanny every morning. She will learn to get up and fix your...

Thanks for the story! My son was in the first grade when the school system decided to ban corporal punishment. That was the last year my son was in public school. I homeschooled both of my children. I, too, was raised in that era where if you were paddled at school you were going to catch...

Lisa, you make me laugh!! If it comes wizzing back at me, I am going for my 12 gauge!! From what I had read earlier there was mention of putting them in the chicken coop. I didn't want to put them in there and make my girls sick. Just curious as to where other people have put them...

Hi Galanie! I am sorry you are having to go through this with your son and his wife. Unfortunately they are being blindsided by their love for the dog. I can see both sides. I am a dog lover and a chicken owner. Last year I saw the devastation by two small stray dogs to my flock. They...

I am trying to keep up with this post, but I must have missed your comments on the hay bale brooder. Would you please explain it for me? I am reading everything possible to get ready to have chicks. I have all girls and I believe 2 of them are brooders. It seems like you guys are waiting...

Hi! Almost a year ago I put up fishing line over my coop. Looks like a giant spider web. I had hawks and owls getting to my girls. Knock on wood, since I put the 'web' up, I haven't had any more deaths. I do check it periodically to make sure it is still taut. Lisa :)
