Chickens for 10-20 years or more? Pull up a rockin' chair and lay some wisdom on us!

Can I ask about boiling your fresh eggs here or should I go over to the food thread? I have to make some deviled eggs and I've only once tried to hard boil these suckers, which was quite the fun! Anyone have a good idea for me or should I head over there?

Huh, go figure about my man. I will have to let him know he may know a thing or two! Thanks again Bee! I feel much better about what I knew I wanted to do! I hear/read you loud and clear on all this. So glad we have someone we can go to for things like this. I do have gut feelings about a...

Not to interupt your lovely thoughts of homesteading without all the fine luxuries (which I do love reading about) , but I do have a question ... or maybe more of an approval or not. I have 3 acres of a hobby farm in a rural area surrounded by farm fields with a few houses on our country road...

Okay, so here's some dumb questions. What are you using to transport the feed to the chickens? Just plopping the mix into a bucket and carrying it out? (picturing something akin to slop in my head right now:) And do you feed it to them daily? Right now I am just using dry layer feed in a 3gal...

Thanks Bee! I do believe when I get my next order (and hopefully last order as I plan to let them carry on the line) it will be the Black Aussies. That will be a while down the road, but I think those would really be the way to go next time. And yep... thought I had read that somewhere about...

Oh yes, and another question I have about FF. Where do you store it/brew it when it's cold out??? Being in Wisconsin and knowing how too cold it gets here, would out in the barn work? I have yet to start this, but printed out all the info and am planning on getting this going. I've informed the...

Excellent info (as usual!) Thank you so much! I know I've got a good group of birds. May not be all I expected (have 2 bantam EE's ... not exactly what momma ordered) but I do appreciate them all... even the cock. I suppose. :) As long as I have your attention for the moment Bee.. I remember...

Question for you OT's if you'd please .... How often do you make a thorough check of your chickens? I see you all talking about mites etc... rarely do I ever picked up my chickens (and never have I held them upside down... even out of curiosity!:) and honestly, ever since the rooster declared...

crap. I knew I should have given that carcass to my birds!! Dang husband convinced me that it was a bad idea... then I went and thought "maybe they'll get a little bone stuck in their throat"... ! Oh well... next time! I really have to get the husband on here to read this stuff. He thinks...

Not an OT by any means (and a "newbie" at that...for what that's worth;-), but my ladies devor mice that my kitties catch and seem to be just dandy with it! I've seen many things written about what chickens will eat (mice, snakes, frogs..etc..) so I would not be alarmed by this cardinal at all...

Hello All!! Newbie here ... well sort of. Been lurking since around Feb. and now have decided to join! I have no questions or concerns (as yet) and don't know that I ever will since this thread pretty much answers any and all questions I had and some I never even knew I wanted to know! :) I am...
