Chickens for 10-20 years or more? Pull up a rockin' chair and lay some wisdom on us!

Ok I'm not an old timer and I'm not a newbie. I have had chickens for almost 20 years. An old lady that owns a ranch down the way puts oyster shells in her water troughs. She says it adds the calcium to the water so the chickens drink it. Is this true? Is it worth it?

Thank you Erin for the link! I love my chickens and free range them 90% of the time. They are molting right now so we are keeping them locked up a bit more to make sure they are safe. They look so ratty since they started. I am keeping a close eye on them.

A small hole in your tarp should fix that. If you don't want to trash the tarp they sell grommet kits at the big chain stores(home depot, ect) or a well placed knife works.

Chickens for 10-20 years or more? Pull up a rockin' chair and lay some wisdom on us!

If you NEED eggs and can't find someone else you trust I would have him meet you somewhere. They could also just be moulting. I can't see his birds or his set up. I would try someone else before him if I could. To each their own I guess is what I am saying. I have had chickens for about 25 years...
