Ah yes. That darn algae... last year was one of the worst years yet for us.
I'm hoping to get our pond going again next week depending on the weather.
Even if it's full of algae, I'd love to see a picture of your pond. Ours is above ground with a small section dug out in the center. The...
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but isn't ich a parasite? I thought that it could only be brought in through other fish. I've been fortunate enough and I haven't had to deal with it yet.
If I can find a better home for the bala sharks, then I'll let them go. Otherwise I'll heat the 125...
This is pretty cool:
It's a cost effective way to build an aquarium. I'm thinking that I need to try it out, and if I do, I'm going big. Probably 600 gallons.
In the video he uses liquid rubber, but I was thinking of using extra pond liner and silicone.
Last I checked the pH was around 8.3. I have pH down if it's necessary. Temperature is around 67 degrees, but I could always put in a heater.
I removed all of the heaters a while ago since they aren't required for goldfish and I had one mal-function. The heater caused an electrical...
Thanks Kevin! It does looks like a Buenos Aires Tetra. Now I just need to figure out what the long silver one is.
Do you think that the Bala sharks would do good with koi and goldfish? I read that they can reach 15 inches and if that's the case, I'd like to put them in the 125 gallon tank.
I gave away the piranha/pacu fish this morning, so I don't need to worry about him any more.
Feel free to correct me on any of these fish.
Here's what I believe to be a long finned black skirt tetra with a red phantom tetra in the background.
I believe that this guy is a bala shark...
I'm not catfish-savvy, haha. I went and did some research.
I didn't know that there was a correct to measure. Many people ask for the tip of the nose to the end of the tail, while others measure to the base of the tail. He (or she) is just over 3 inches long when measured to the base of...
The difference between Brochis splendens and corydoradine species is that Brochis have more than 10 rays in the dorsal fin while Corydoras have 7 rays. This fish has 7 rays in his dorsal fin like a Corydoras.
I held up a ruler and he's exactly 4 inches long.
I'll try to get pictures tomorrow. He looks like a green corydoras, but none of mine ever got past 2 1/2 inches, so I was shocked when I saw how big he was. He doesn't look like he's from the genus Synodontis, he looks exactly like a green cory and he's about 1 1/2 inches tall.
I could be...
They are definitely stressed. They spent at least 7 hours in that little cooler and their fins were full of red streaks. I'm pretty sure the streaks were due to the stress rather than bacterial because they aren't as noticeable any more.
He seemed like he was taking care of them, and I...
It definitely could. I'm still not sure what it is, but it has a similar body shape, red anal and tail fin, and teeth. I'll take a picture of him in a bit. Like I said, I'm still not sure, but he's awfully suspicious looking. To make matters worse, many of the other fish in the cooler have...
Someone just dropped off a cooler full of fish. He took down his tank and figured that he'd just give them to me. He used to be my neighbor, so he knew I raised fish. I have no idea what many of these fish are and 1 of them looks like a piranha. What am I going to do with a piranha?
I take...
Here are a few pictures of some of the koi that I brought in for the winter. They aren't my best koi, but they are the ones that were small enough to fit in my 125 gallon. I always worry about them being outside, so I bring a few in each year.
I just did a bit of research.
It says that they prefer natural foods such as aquarium plants and unwanted snails. It also says that they enjoy algae wafers, but the wafers tend to make tanks messy. So there you go, fun little creatures, but try to avoid feeding algae.
hmm... I haven't had any for over 2 years. I'm trying to remember why I sold them...
They're neat little creatures, and it was very cool watching them 'self clone'.
I think that I didn't like feeding them. If I remember right, I was feeding them algae wafers, shrimp pellets, cumcumber...
They are called marbled crayfish and they don't need a mate to reproduce. They are able to 'self clone'.
I used to have blue marbled crayfish and they were pretty neat. Do a google search to learn more.
hmm.. This thread doesn't look very active, but I'll chime in!
I've got a 4000 gallon pond, 125 gallon tank, 55 gallon tank, 46 gallon tank, 2 20 gallon tanks, and a ton of 10 gallon tanks.
I keep mainly koi and goldfish, but I've had many other fish as well such as guppies, swordtails...
