W4W, my ladies are 2 years and 4 months. 1 black sexlink and 2 silver laced wyandottes. Yes, they are hatchery. We are their 2nd owner though. We got them a few months ago and they came to us very "spoiled". They had previously been in a climate controlled coop, with light and music 24/7...

I can relate, we have been 100+ degrees every day but 2 for the past 3 weeks. I went from an average of 12-14 eggs per week, to this past 10 days only getting 4-6 per week. I am on day 5 of 0 eggs :(
I live just a couple hundred miles from Lodi, and yes, it is very hot here right now. We do have a dry heat, which is (in my opinion) more bearable than humid heat. But hot is hot. When you live in an oven, you just get used to it.
He was. I just thought it was funny that I text him to tell him she died and then said "on the bright side we got 3 eggs today" and he responds with "woohoo 100% production ". I did laugh! His way of helping :).
Yay!!!! Congratulations!!!!!
Lol!!!! Too funny!
Well, our girl Dizie (the one that was egg bound on Sat died this morning) and I got 3 eggs today. My ever so helpful and slightly smart-alecy hubby told me "well, it was a 100% production day".
How fun! And how cute! My littles are still 8-12 or more weeks from POL and I can hardly wait! My hubby wants to go away for the weekend in September....I told him we could if the babies start laying before then. He laughed, he thought I was joking. Now I was really only half serious...
Here in central CA our layer feed averages $14-16/50# bag no matter which feed store or TSC you go to. I have a really hard time finding anything larger than a 20# bag of chick starter and that runs $10-11. We have one feed store (out of 3) that carries 50# bags of chick starter but they sell...
Ah, the colors in your egg basket are gorgeous! I think in Feb I will order a couple EE from our local feed store to get some variet in our egg basket :). I'm quite paranoid about getting pullets or POL from Craig's List because I don't want to bring disease into my flock....or bad behavior or...
Oh Lindz, I am so very sorry for the loss of your Parker. I have 3 precious dogs and the thought of losing any of them just hurts so much! Praying for peace and comfort for you and your family.
I do have a dish in the run that I put crushed egg shells in for them and they eat it empty every day. Yesterday I didn't have any egg shells to put out so I put oyster she'll out.....those picky ladies barely touched it :). Thankfully the while family had eggs yesterday for breakfast so I...
I have been following this thread for a few months now and have read ALL (yep, every one) of the posts. I love this thread, it is one of my favorites. I do have a question for all of you though. I have 4 2 year old hens that we adopted in March and 4 5 week old chicks. When we got the hens 3 of...
Thank you! I'm in the Central Valley. In Tulare County between Fresno and Bakersfield.
Our city council meeting will be Tues night. Many prayers going up!!!!
I agree! My hubby took to the ladies right away and loves giving them treats and is always disappointed if they won't let him pet them while we are in the yard with them.
My hubby is the one that suggested we work on lobbying to get the chicken law changed in our city to allow more chickens...
