CSU - Chicken State University- Large Fowl SOP

I have seen many discussions of the discontent of the current standard artistic representation, I am sure the Dom club is not the only breed club that have made their voices heard. The APA has done a wonderful job with the SOP and there will always be grumbling with just about everything out...

The thing that we have to remember is that Shilling was a artist, he was not a master breeder of ever bird he did a picture of. His pictures are only his interpretation of what he thinks the Standard reads. It has been said time and time again on here and other sties that we should not breed...

If you want your birds to meet the SOP color, I don't think I would use a light female unless it was mated to a very dark male. Many colors fail in the chest of a bird. Particularly in the females. You can go backwards with this color very quickly. Walt I feel it is more of a pattern issue...

This bird below is good in that she has nice tight feathering. she appears sleeker, not fluffy or heavy weight. There is potential. I like all three of these girls. Will they be in your breeding pens this spring? I agree, these Hens all show great potential, breast are all held up...

This cockerel is looser feathered than I would prefer. as for the comb, Very course, blade spike and large points, but the bird has such good type and tail spread is wide with a nice overlay in the main feathers. I feel the main tail feathers are longer than they should be, and could be more of...

and I did not specify the color should be slate, the fluff visible by drawing the feathers back on their grain.

Gallusfarm, If you prefer to have lighter colored pullets with wider white barring in your Dominiques you have to stamp it in with a very light male. Use very clean marked hens and under color is very important in the birds, especially the hen. Here is an example of a pullet breeder. John

A great example of a Dominique cockerel. I like this picture better than the side profile, it gives us a better view of the concave sweep from the hackle all the way back to the tail. The type will be complimented more as it gets older with more lessor sickles and sweeping main sickles. Breast...

I have been working with Dominique's now for several years and the biggest challenges I am faced with were short tails and feather width. I put an effort into the breeding pens last year and made good improvements in that department. Suggestions would be great for closer feathering. Seems to be...

The 'barring' on a dominique should be complete from side to side. distinct contrast is important that the cuckoo pattern be crisp and keep the bird from having a smudged or dirty look. Solid black feathers in the hackle, breast and wing bow in females are not uncommon but should be pulled out to...
