CSU - Chicken State University- Large Fowl SOP

I haven't seen any good answers to the question either. In my own mind I'm thinking that if they are pretty close to the listed weight at 6 months and achieve it at 9 then I'm probably doing something right. I would probably worry if they were too far below weight at 6 months and still not...

A few of the birds I have this year; all Dec 2012 hatch Pullet, legband red 59; needs more copper on her head & neck, black ear tuft, clean legged. A little on the small side. One of the better typed girls I ended up with, she has been retained for a test hatch. Mr 50 was my favorite...

me too; if it's in the male you are using do all the chicks get it or is there a possibility that some won't Or are there varying degrees of it? so you can actually have a choice? Same with the yellow leg; since it's sex linked and only the male carries it.... exactly how does that work?

Bjorn, which birds were you referring to? If you don't know, on this site, that button in the lower right of each post that says QUOTE will copy that post to the reply box. You can select and delete excess pictures and text if you want to make it shorter, but it helps us know which birds/posts...

I tried to post earlier; but the site wouldn't let me. First up a young roo, hatched Sep 2012 so almost a year old. I'm debating on naming him dinner. First, what's right; he has the sweetest disposition ever. In fact I had to move him into the baby coop because an EE boy was tearing him up...

this thread is about learning what to look for in breeding standard bred birds; comparing photos to what the ideal bird would look like. Sometimes strays a bit into other areas, but stays on topic pretty good

All right, here are some hatchery buffs for you. I don't know for sure which hatchery they came from, don't think I ever asked.... Here is Meaner. while his hackles are pretty, the rest of him is too light and his underfluff is white. Also brown speckling and spots in the tall. He was a very...

well Vicki, it's a bit hard to post in your company.... my poor hatchery birds look like a different species next to your beautiful birds.

I would also like to see some comments on these as I have some Welsummers and BO that tend to look like this. armorfirelady maybe you could get another pic closer of just one from directly overhead? It might be easier to see.

Number two and three, right? I love this pic, really helps me see the body shape. Would this be the general ideal shape for most dual purpose breeds? I'm thinking we're looking for the width over the legs to be about as wide as the body is across the shoulder? and that a tear drop shape in...
