    Backyard Brahmas!!

Mr Big sure is a pretty boy! My Brahma Henny's first eggs were small & some with no shell and not every day for about 2-3 weeks. Now they are consistently large but the color is different every day. I agree that letting them free range in the day makes them extra healthy (and happy). Mine did...

@holm25 Henny is a hatchery bird - nothing special, just spoiled!

I was having difficulty posting that pic. Hope you can see the variability of tint as well as how different the spots are. These are all from the last week or so. Henny is a 9.4 lbs Light Brahma and is almost a year old now. She started laying in Dec and was hatched in April. She is the...

    Backyard Brahmas!!

My Brahma lays rose-tan eggs that have darker spots about half the time. There is a lot of variability from day to day, but she lays every day with a couple days off every month. I will post pix - I am a bit behind and didn't want to lose this post.

    Backyard Brahmas!!

My Brahma has been at point of lay for over 2 weeks and she is now 27 weeks and doesn't fly at all. Any advice on nest box height and size? My others have chosen a milk crate they fly up to. Thanks!

Pretty girls!!! Sounds like you just got a timid Brahma. I have only one Brahma and because she is the biggest, she is top hen, but she wasn't at first. Being new to the flock is pretty stressful. They say it is best to keep new birds seperated for a couple weeks to make sure they don't have...

@lightchickThe white definitely looks more Brahma than the honey one. Their faces are so different! I have a light brahma and she looked a lot like your white one and not at all like your honey one.

Do you know how to search the forums? I just found a good thread called "Comb Genetics". It is a lot to take in at first but then they start talking specific breeds and what happens when you cross stuff in. Maybe your rose combs came from Rhode Island Reds since you have such lovely reds...

Here are all the combs: https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/the-8-comb-types Too bad they didn't also list the breed of chicken posing the combs.

Sorry, I didn't get my response in above post... @Uzair Ahmed First, your birds are lovely!! 2nd, Don't think about it as not having Brahmas, but rather that you have a Brahma breeding project. Breeders are always mixing things in to get a better combo of traits that more closely match the...

    Backyard Brahmas!!

Haha! I was told on the 'what gender' forum that Henny was a Henry when she was 6 weeks old. Def a boy they said because of the red comb. But after this molt, I thought there should be things like saddle feathers at least. So, thank you for the 2nd opinions. :)

    Backyard Brahmas!!

Hi, I have a light brahma, Henry, who is 18 weeks now. Shouldn't he start looking like a rooster? He has been molting but just a soft one. He is more than 2 feet from beak to tail. Here are some pix: As you can see, he needs more room to roost in the coop. Will he get even bigger...
