Cute! I have 7 dark brahma chicks that are 5 weeks old, i've read that males and females look the same at this age. One thing I did notice, 4 of mine have WAY more tail feathers than the other 3.
Earlier this spring I had 4 chicks (backyard mixed breed) and the same thing happened with tail...
Thanks for the reassurance, I think my brahma hen will be glad to share some of the roosters affections ;)
I love the fuzzy butts too, but they grow way too fast!
It sounds like that is what has happened here, the parents both look like your typical dark brahma (or so I'm told :) but I have no idea what other type of genes they may be carrying. Previous owner had called them a "brahma cross" but I never thought to ask for details as it didn't really...
Hi, looking for a little help from some of you experienced Brahma owners.....
I have 2 older dark brahmas, a hen and a rooster, who I've had a year (though they are closer to 4 years old). I also have four young chickens (not sure of breed but look like at least part black australorp) just...
My brahma rooster crows at all different times of the day, I thought that was normal :)
He's an older fellow and such a gentleman that I don't mind putting up with his noise. He also calls to his hen during the day when they're out and about and that can get noisy too. Luckily our neighbours...
We had 8 eggs in our incubator from our dark brahma rooster and hen, 2 of them hatched:
I was surprised at the colour of the first chick, didn't expect a yellow fuzz ball :)
We all thought it was too funny that they come out of the egg with feathered feet!
Thanks for the tip, I ran it with the turner this afternoon and the temp was perfect. I only have 7 eggs (holds 12) in there but I will keep an eye on the temp just in case.
I had also read somewhere that the eggs closest to the turner motor can get a bit warmer, so I think I'll change them...
Thank you for the info, I read that late last night and my head was spinning with all the information! But I did take away some useful info which I plan on posting by my incubator as reminders. There is a lot of conflicting info out there, everyone has their own opinion on what works best, so I...
Thanks, I have my doubts they will hatch, but I sure hope they do! I love seeing the different colours of brahmas on this thread, makes me want to add another type to my flock, but I sure do love my darks!!
My neighbour brought over his incubator last night for us to borrow. I've cleaned it and have had it running since last night. Tested the auto turner today. I plan on putting 7 eggs from my dark brahma hen in there this evening...anyone have any helpful hints?
My neighbour has hatched 2...
We're borrowing an incubator in a week or so, and plan on putting some of their eggs in. We just have the rooster and one hen now, as the other hen passed away a few weeks ago. So, I won't be able to collect many eggs for the incubator. Do any of you know how far ahead of time we can hold the...
The guy I got them from called the hen a brahma cross but I never thought to ask what she was crossed with. If I see him again I'll ask.
My neighbour gave us 4 chicks a week ago, they are now 3 weeks old and growing fast. I think it's safe to say they are 'mutts', but will be interesting to...
Thanks! They ARE really big, which I think is the only reason the hawks haven't made a meal of them yet. We had a little brown hen last fall too but it only lasted a few weeks then disappeared from the yard, only a pile of feathers left :(
Hi, just wondering if anyone could take a guess at what breeds these guys may be? I got them last fall and they are 3-4 years old. It doesn't really matter to me what type of cross they are, I'm just curious :)
They are wonderful to have around, very docile and friendly. They LOVE to fling the...
