So Big Buck has been in with his 32 hen harem for several days now. It could be my imagination but his crows sound a little tired today haha Mine would too if I was trying to service 32 ladies

Justso, I only had him leashed like that because he was just rehomed to my farm from another farm. He was in 'quarantine' just to make sure he was healthy for a while before I brought him to meet his ladies. The only place I had to quarantine him at the time was an area inside my shop and I...

He is actually a really gentle guy! I've only seen him mount one Australop and only when she 'offered' and he was actually very nice to her. I will keep an eye on the ladies to make sure they aren't getting over worked. He is the only Roo in with 32 gals though so im not too worried :)

I would suspect they have some barred rock in them, maybe cornish, maybe RIR. Look at the coloring in the roo. Hens are almost all rusty red in primary colors. I got mine from Hoovers and i called and asked if they were a hybrid. The guy said they were not and 'should breed true'. I have...

My Dixie rainbow pullets aren't laying yet ( 10 weeks old) so I probably won't try until next spring

Yeah, I don't intend to breed for standard or anything like that. We want to try mating him to some Dixie rainbows to see what that may produce for broilers and may try putting him over a barred rock hen to see if we can get a sex link. I will also breed a Dr to a Dr and see what that looks...

The person I got Big Buck from said he is purebreed and was naturally hatched by his buckeye mother. His lineage came from the stock of a local breeder who supposedly is a regular ribbon winner at county and state level fair shows.

He was calling out to the ladies tonight. I think he is quite happy to have the band off from his neck. I had never heard of people doing that before. I guess the neighbors didnt like his crow at his old home.

This is the newest addition to my farm, a buckeye rooster that was rehomed from a farm where he had to wear a neckband to keep his crowing down. We have been calling him 'big buck' as he weighs in at almost 12lbs and stands almost to my knee. Just though I would share as I am just learning...
