    So, the hawk showed up today, and I noticed that the only birds brave enough to stay in the yard with it were the local grackles, so I had an idea. I was wondering, will they do the same job as the crows in keeping hawks away?

    If you want a good protective rooster, I would recommend a Silver Laced Wyandotte, big and not afraid to fight off a predator, but not too friendly in my experience.

    You're right, I can't net mine, and we already have so many plants edible for birds and they regularly stay in the yard, I haven't had a problem yet. I think I'll try to get the crows to roost closer by, thanks everybody!

    I also have two Austrolorps! I usually just stand by them and watch thr hawk fly away. Yes, that would make sense. :D

    Awesome! I think I'll try with crows as ive seen a few by me. I don't think they should be a problem since my girls are all around the same size as them. :)

    Thanks for your suggestions, bottle rockets actually sound kinda fun! I've also heard that crows seem to deter hawks. Any input on this?

    When the chickens were first allowed out, there had been no problems with hawks because of our Bernese Mountain Dogs tendency to follow the chickens around the yard. But when he passed in august, the hawks started checking out the girls, even going after them a few times. Luckily, our rooster...
