The Wait Is Over!!! Not sure which of our girls laid these, but it happened in the last couple of days. Why so unsure of when? They didn't lay in the nesting box! They laid in the cavity under a huge log in the chicken pen! No way to tell if they are from the same hen or two different ones...
23 weeks any no eggs yet from our eldest... the two Barred Rocks and the two NH Reds. Everyone we have talked to says they should be laying by now. Can't understand why they are not. They have plenty of food (layer feed and greens as well as vegetable scraps and such) and water, a nice big...
We are now just at 20 weeks old for our NH Reds and Barred Rocks. Their combs are starting to get much redder. But sadly, no eggs yet. Nesting boxes have a mix of straw and pine shavings. We are checking the boxes twice a day. Like the old song says "Anticipation.... anticipa-a-tion its...
Waiting and waiting. Our younger chicks are finally big enough that they dont squeeze through the fence around the pen. Still got til september at the earliest for the older chicks to lay.

All 4 are just over 6 weeks old... No eggs til late September at teh earliest...
then there are the 4 Buff Orpingtons... they are only about 3 weeks old.... Mid October for them.....
I am not very good at waiting!
