Who else is waiting for that first egg?

Mine run away. And they don't flatten out for the roosters. The roosters jump on them and flatten them.

Who else is waiting for that first egg?

Did anyone else's roosters start acting strange when the hens started laying eggs? One of mine is making strange noises that I've never heard before, and pacing upstairs by the nests with a hen who's getting ready to lay. It's like he's acting like an expectant father. Update: The sound he...

Who else is waiting for that first egg?

Today was the day. Layed right outside the nest box. I'll need about 3-4 more of these for a meal. Egg on right is XL store-bought for comparison.

Who else is waiting for that first egg?

Heard one of my 21-week-old Welsummer hens making sounds I haven't heard before. She was in the coop breathing with her mouth open; looked uncomfortable; thought it might be the heat. Who else is waiting for that first egg?

Mine are almost 17 weeks and still not roosting. They do the dog pile thing right up against the closed off nests. What do I do when it comes time for them to start laying and they're still doing the dog pile thing? I'm sure they'd love to cram into the nests.
