You should try Cafe Rio, Bitterroot! It's delish :) I get the Pork Salad and it's to die for. Thanks :) I like them. They're just understandably scared $***less. I think in a few days they'll be fine. I think they're just Buff ducks after looking up some pictures. Yeah Azriel. That's how we...

Well, I have two big dogs(LGD and a property guard) and an alert dog. Nothing big comes through the yak pen. The horns are the biggest deterrent I think. We have a good horseshoe set up with the birds in the middle, so nothing really gets to them :) Cept those danged Baldies... I used to think...

Well, when you free range in MT, you have to not *love* your chickens. I have what's called an "Acceptable Loss" concept. I know that some will be killed by dogs, eagles, bears, coons, skunks, etc- just depending on how far from my dogs they go. I guess that I lose about 5 chickens a year...

Haha yeah... well, usually they feed the babies at night, so maybe bring momma in, too? Of course, my SF doe fed her babies like 10 times a day and they were huge. I like Lakeland, I use Rabbit Habit for NON bred/nursing animals. Rabbit Family for preg/nursing does and growing kits. Then I use...

Bitterroot- I have Marans, OEs, EEs and I'm just West of Missoula. If you want some eggs I can get you some in town sometime if you're just down the Bitterroot Valley. I forget if you're further away. It's been chilly here, too 2-3 inches yesterday, DH plowed for some people, now it's...

Welcome living the dream! I'm over in the Missoula area :) Karla- if I wasn't already full up with 2 roos (father/son who like each other) then I'd take him! But I think he'd get beat up here :( Hopefully you get a great home for him!! Well we got hit with about 5 inches of snow last night...

Aw :) Hope you can move back to MT soon, CluckyCharms! DH and I are from big cities and moved here from Phoenix in 2010. We love it here. It really is the last best place. Azriel, looking forward to those eggs, your Duckwing boy is gorgeous! Karla, we got hammered with chemtrails when all...

How strange! Uh I would call the company or send off an email... I haven't heard of anything like that, but ya never know! Is the protein content the same or higher than your old feed? Hope you figure out what's gonig on! That's a little creepy! Happy Thanksgiving!

It's a balmy 24 degrees outside, and looks like we won't get new snow until tomorrow. Think we'll head in to Famous Dave's for their Veteran's Day free meal for active/retired/vets.

Oh Azriel, I'm so sorry! People like that just irk me! We got our first 4 girls from a large, 80+ cow herd (not counting babies) and it's taken almost 2 years to get them to come around. All at different levels. Not worth it, in my opinion! That does make more sense on the price, though! Tame...

Welcome Tazman99! We got about 3 inches yesterday, melted down to 1-2 in different spots, and it's been dusting/snowing on and off today. It's not freezing outside, so it's melting off slowly. My chickens have gone from 0-2 eggs/day to 10 already today :) Some of my oldest young girls are...

We are at about 3000 ft elevation and we're getting snow now. Not full cover on the ground yet, but give it an hour! Hope everyone is doing well, I had planned to make another giant hanging rabbit cage today... Oh well! Azriel- how did it go with the heifer? :) Got pictures?

Azriel- That is probably the most sought after color for high quality fiber :) $800 is a good deal if she's workable and will come for grain. Yaks are slow-growing, so you could breed her to a young Angus bull, but I would not breed her to a mature one. The yaks have a different version of heat...

What color is she, Azriel? If she's a grey nosed black, then that's pretty standard. If she's an Imperial (black nosed black) or a Royal (piebald) then that is a good deal :) Is she friendly? If you're just getting the one, you'd want her to be friendly. You can train her to carry a pack and up...

Well, we've had a few more light dustings but today all has melted off! It's a little dreary out there, and sprinkling some rain on occasion, but not too shabby! Of course, the yak pen is disgusting to walk through the heavily-trod areas... I wish that area would freeze selectively so I wouldn't...

Yeah, we do it ourselves. I used to think that plucking was super hard so we skinned them.... it's so not! So now I pluck and do everything. DH shoots them in the head, and I process. Thinking of saving the pretty feathers for crafters and fly-tiers. Some of the roos have black or blue centers...

Oh I have 35 chickens. But only 7 good hens. 4 that need culling who don't lay, and then the one keeper Roo. Then there are 10 young roos for meat. The rest of the pullets are young. The oldest are about to be 5 months old, and the youngest are just over 2 months old. We're going to be...

Yup, all the animals are a little put off by the strange white stuff. I did get two eggs today... so at least that's something. Maybe I'll have some late layers today. Yesterday I got nothing >.< Our chicken feed prices haven't gone up terrible yet. We feed Lakeland (MT grown/milled), and we...
