No DQs LOL. The highlight of the day was my homebred cockerel getting Reserve American! I had the only Jersey Giants, but there was a decent American class.
In my opinion, they don't have a DQ, but I'm still nervous I'm overlooking something.
Also, white birds are surprisingly hard to keep clean. I posted in the club FB group hoping for some magic tip the experts know. Nope, just bathe and hope for the best.
Several chicks were ready to go outside right in the middle of dealing with an at the time unknown predator so they were in a rabbit pen until we got our electric net set up. His tail feathers are ruffled from the rabbit pen. They'll molt out and look normal later. :)
The Black Giant project isn't dead! I treated myself to hatching eggs from a different breeder for my birthday. Got this guy and a really nice pullet growing out from that group. They just turned 4 months old. Normally that's too young to evaluate, but they're already miles ahead of the black...
I had to do a lot of culling. You can see on my hen there's yellow on her legs. Half of the chicks had solid yellow legs, a DQ. This was the ONLY female with mostly willow legs. I have some more chicks from the same source so I'm hoping for more girls and I'm saving eggs from this pair. 🤞

Thank you! These guys took much longer to come into their own so I never really showed them off. I walked out one day and my jaw dropped. Like where did you come from?
To update this, my black Giants were looking promising when I first posted but I feel they sort of "fell apart" with age. They're nice birds, don't get me wrong, but in my opinion more of a home egg/meat production quality than serious breeding program quality.
I was raising some white Giants...
Thank you! I have similar opinions on them, particularly the length of back. I wondered about the hair feathers so good to know it isn't a huge deal. Every one of the pullets has them to some extent. The pullet in my avatar has now started holding her tail at a 90* angle at all times. She was...
Yes, of course. As I said, they are only 7 months old so I won't be making any final decisions just yet. I won't be putting together any breeding pens until they are 12-14 months. That said, I was looking for input to make sure I was on the right track with my judgments of the birds.
Thank you! I've had my eye on her from 3 months and, in my opinion, she is well above my other 6 pullets. Pullet weight should be 8 pounds. I don't have a scale (yet), but when I picked her up today she was surprisingly solid. From a purely guessing state, I'd say she's at least that.
Well I tried to get photos of my current top pick pullet. In my first post, she is the one featured in pic 2 and the back pullet in pic 3. We started in a small pen but she wouldn't settle in there.
3 months old
4 months old
Next three are 6 months old
And these are today, exactly 7...
The back pullet and last one are different birds. She (the back one) is the same pullet as the one next to the bowl inside the coop. There are 3 of my top pullets shown and the only cockerel I ended up with. I'll try for some more pictures though. 😊
