I was able to rehome a cockerel on a Facebook group. He has a great life now! And he wasn't a fancy breed - just a white Leghorn. I kinda miss the fella. He was a nice boy. I still get updates from his new mom. There's one below!
Point is, you never know who wants a new cockerel for their...
Just FYI: Avian influenza has been detected in Nor Cal. Happened last month, and I missed that news somehow. In Glenn, Colusa, Placer, Sacramento, Solano, Sonoma, Plumas, and Butte Counties. Wild birds only so far, from what I'm reading. Mostly Canada Geese and White Pelicans.
I've got a friend who just hatched two Call ducks in Nevada County! I have a beautiful girl from one of her previous hatches - very healthy, very cute, very small. Anyone interested? I'd take them in a HEARTBEAT, but I haven't got the room.
Howdy, neighbor! I'm in Nevada County, too. My chickens have air conditioning in their coop - haha! Misters are good, too, but my flock doesn't like them because of the noise they make. Your mileage may vary.
I have a similar setup, minus the LGD. Electric poultry netting = awesome. I have 19...

Dr. Jackson @ Animal Medical Center, which I just realized is in Auburn (Placer County). He is not an avian specialist, but he works closely with UC Davis and can get all the meds and info needed easily.
I can't remember the vet's name, but she's at Brunswick Veterinary in Grass Valley.
There are two here in my neck of the woods (western Nevada County).
There may be more that I don't know of. There were also several in the Sacramento area.
Never really thought about it that way. You raise very good points, and I have to say I agree with you entirely.
I had several people offer, but I think I'm going to keep him and make 2 flocks in separate areas of my property. NOT ideal at all, but I gotta do what I gotta do.
Hi.
I'm going to try to rehome Picotee, my Sebright rooster. He's become aggressive towards me (and only me), and it's interfering with my ability to care for my hens.
He's 2 years old, never been sick or injured. He's very good to his hens (although he doesn't get along with my Barred Rock)...
We got 2 trees taken care of. Now we have 468754256533 to go - lol!
My goat's loafing pen is a SWAMP. Got to dig that out this morning. Still no power. Still can't go anywhere.
"Locals" say we should have been prepared and removed trees. We had a couple of arborists out this time last year...
It's Snowmageddon 2021 out here! Got an unprecedented amount of snowfall last 2 days. We prepared for the power outage, but our entire county is a disaster. Trees could not take the snow load. Huge oaks took out both our cars and just missed a neighbor's house by mere inches. We lost about a...
They are, but when they die or are infested by bark beetle or if they have root rot, they gotta go.
In our area, a property owner can cut down any tree that is a danger, any oak that is 36" in diameter (unless I get a permit), or that is designated as historic. I have literally hundreds of...
The oaks grow tall and begin to bend here. The roots and trunks can get weakened by fungus. It's pretty wet here, so it's always the oaks that topple. I lost one pine this year, and it was already dead.
It snowed more than usual.up here this week. Our schools had a snow day on Tuesday because so many were without power and the buses couldn't reach everyone.
We lost 3 trees, as far as we know. There may be more but we haven't inspected the whole property. There's at least 2 more that will need...
