    Coop too small?

Would be easy on the one side, but not sure on the nesting box side. Atleast not in a way that I like/ find visually appealing that my husband says will work well . Lol I've asked quite a bit of him these past few weeks. Once it started dropping below freezing I wanted this done ASAP. So I think...

    Coop too small?

We're considering if rain comes temporarily closing some of the triangle up. It shouldn't be much of an issue with the snow because of the hardware cloth. So that may just be next springs project :/. Open to input!

    Coop too small?

I never removed the hardware cloth/welded wire from the previous design. So under the clear siding is the hardware and fencing. So predators would have to get through both the siding then the wire. Which I'm sure is never impossible, but gives me some confidence in the strength. And then it's...

    Coop too small?

That is a concern I had, but wasn't quite sure how to add more and keep rain/snow out. I'm gonna keep a close eye on it. My understanding is you can manage ammonia with additives like sweet pdz? Am I correct in that?

    Coop too small?

I will definitely be adjusting as I go. Oofta is there a learning curve. I'm super intrigued about the siding and if it will catch the heat in the winter. I left the hardware cloth/ fencing from before on underneath it so it should be strong enough to withstand predators. I suppose it would be...

    Coop too small?

Living where I do in Minnesota it's much easier to provide shade in the summer than it is to keep them warm in the winter. I only have a handful of summer days to worry about while most of winter will be below zero. So that's why I made that choice. I live on the edge of suburbia most predators...

    Coop too small?

Okay if anyone is still following along here is the result.. we enclosed the coop so it would have 4 SQ ft for 20 birds and the run is 10 SQ ft for 20 birds..I only have 14 chickens, but might as well.:) I did the clear siding on half, but I'm going to insulate it 3/4 of the way up I think. I...

    Coop too small?

The total structure is 8x10 and then the run will be 7.5x 30 or so

    Coop too small?

I'm also considering more polycarbonate than siding on the coop to creat a greenhouse affect for warmth. In Minnesota my hot days are few and far between but my cold days are plentiful. Would having the chickens be visible from the outside be a bad thing?

    Coop too small?

Okay here are pics of the current coop. The plan as of now is to take off all the fencing and replace it with the siding. Drop the coop down to the earth have a dirt floor with the deep litter method. I'll have one or two top panels be clear polycarbonate to let in light/ solar heat. I will cut...

    Coop too small?

Thank you for that info. I will post a pic tomorrow when it's light. Right now the coop is metal. From what I understand it's really just keeping them out of the wind and elements that's a big deal.. would a big metal coop be an issue? I'm also considering a dirt floor since there isn't one now...

    Coop too small?

Yes, we are in Minnesota... So it gets cold and I'm assuming the girls won't want to be outside as much so I was getting more and more nervous about the coop being small if the spend all their time there. But then I was like... With and 8-10 be too big since their body heat keeps them warm?

Would being too crowded cause sickness too?

    Coop too small?

Okay wow thank you! Definitely will adjust. I have enough nesting boxes but I'll get them more space before winter. Ugh frustrating.

    Coop too small?

I was discussing with my husband who is amazing and made my coop and we could enclose the whole thing so that the coop is 8x10 and then make a run for them. I love that the tractor give them fresh grass but it's definitely not worth it if it's too small. I was leaning this route I just wanted to...

    Coop too small?

Hello everyone! My chickens are six months old and I'm a new chicken mama. I've recently had a round of sickness go through my coop. It seemed to be respiratory, and I've also had a few hurt hens. Combs bleeding, feather picking(maybe molting) and a broken toenail. The last two weeks have been...
